Convo with Eske is now live š
The timeline CEREMONY works with from recording an interview to publication is slow-paced and almost non-existent by design, which allows for so much life and perspective in between. Eskeās conversation asked for some long care-time in between recording and publishing - not a lot of editing, but a lot of holding still and letting the words we shared sink in. When Eske wasnāt ready I met him there, and when I wasnāt ready Eske met me where I was. It is symbiotic and relieving to work like thisā¦it sometimes means conversations take two years to come out, but I canāt imagine it happening any other way.Ā
This conversation models the unraveling of reflection and the ongoing life experience of recognizing when what weāre doing isnāt where we want to be (even despite āsuccessā). We donāt often share when we are questioning our lifeās purpose or our day-to-day for so. many. reasons. It requires so much time to unravel those questions and truthfully, there arenāt any answers - so by asking, you are signing up to practice what it means to be in an honest relationship. Love & commitment despite lots of unknowns. Weāre also constantly battling this pressure to keep laughing, spending, smiling - to give our attention anywhere other than reflecting or questioning the structures around us. Eske and I asked some big questions and discussed how scary it felt to not know the answers. Take some time with this one - it meant a lot to us and I hope that translates through the web to all of you.
second pair of custom carpenter jeans made for @champagnepapi š ļøš
these complete the set along with the pair i posted a few months back. both pairs are made from the same materials but constructed in very different ways, like 2 big wearable puzzles.
made from rare cream vintage levi's and wranglers, painters pants, and deadstock natural denim. each are a 1 of 1 but i wanted to treat them like designing a whole collection down to every element like stitching, vintage rivets, riri zippers, and new specially made 'storyteller' waist labels.

jean tunnel? a Junnel?? a couple weeks ago i got to visit this amazing exhibit titled Free Land Scape by @paolapivi . it was both sensory overload and deprivation walking (and falling and crawling) through a structure made of this fabric that i've grown accustomed to. im so used to seeing denim as work so to be playful with it like this felt so weird in a good way. i calculated it was about 1000 yards of denim and all hand stitched by the artist. seeing the footprints faded into the denim of all the people who walked before mešš¤š»š¤š»
shout out to the security guard that helped guide the experience and schooled me on denim history
New friends + new threads.
Earlier this spring, Kotn joined up with Eske Schiralli (@eske ) and the youth-led organization @kickbackconnect , to run an upcycling workshop empowering young people to grow with their garments. Equipping them with a few basic tailoring skills, they transformed their plain white tees into styles unique to them. Explore the feature, and learn the DIY, at kotn.com/editorials

Sneakerella has been out for a few weeks now so i wanted to look back on some of the process work involved with making shoes fit for a movie. we made 5 major models overall but i want to start with this one, the new generation glass slipper, or what the production team called El's Gala sneaker.
i was originally tasked with making a shoe that had a lot of plot points incorporated into it. if it looks like a lot is going on that's because it is for a good reason lol. I've made a lot of these individual details before but usually on their own and never combined together in such a complex way.
@rachaelgrubbs and @nifferdesign designed the shoe so that the upper was made from a bunch of non shoe related objects that the 2 main characters find over the course of going on a date. this means getting the pieces to stay together, let alone shaped around the last (foot form), needed a lot of patience and time to figure out. but because time was tight, my mentor @solesurvivorshop , project manager @certified.organic and i had to figure out the upper details on the fly. the prototypes are actually what got sent in and worn by the actors. so frickin cool to see that our experimental shoes worked and looked good on screen.
next was the sole, a whole other project completely. my good friend daniel @satchimoe (who i've known since elementary school!!) had to make wearable sole units that somehow had a tiny new york city along with a working electronic setting sun inside. and they had to be clear rubber so you can see everything (the clearer the material the more bonkers difficult it becomes to work with) imagine the light up shoes we had as kids but on magical steroids. one of my favourite breakthrough moments during the whole shoe production was when @satchimore figured out that to make the sunset work he used a fibre optic cable, wrapped in electrical tape so there was a concentrated circle with no light leak happening in the rest of the sole. someone originally told us to use an LED but because the sole material is clear it would've lit everything up and you wouldn't see NYC in there. literally a damn daniel moment.
much more to show on the next 4 models eventuallyš
wow wtf it's out today!!š³ i did an interview with @complexcanada and shared some thoughts behind the shoe making process of Disney's Sneakerella (also out todayšš»šš»). i still can't believe this is all happening.
huge thank you @noelransome for writing this and making me feel comfortable with something that i was otherwise pretty nervous about.
also big thanks to @tmmychs for the link up and @alexninog for facilitating. much love
did my thing on a pair of jeans and spoke with @kotn about becoming your own tailor (or befriending oneš„²). the editorial is up on their site now if you're interested in reading the full thing
