Working on some cone 10 reduction pots. Love making these pinch and coil pieces, playing with patterns, yellow salt glaze and Rhodes black, some white glazes, helix and boney stoney, and the wonderful Shinos with boney stoney patterns. Here we are. It is 2026 - the beginning of the Gregorian Calendar and we are in the beginning of Exodus in the year 5786 of the Hebrew Calendar. Exodus=Movement. Starting again with Ein Sof Pots. אין סוף in Hebrew means “without end.” In this infinite space, made with a coil that has no beginning and no ending, starting with a ball of clay, I press a donut hole into it and then pinch and pinch and pinch to create a torus. Each donut coil sits within the next. Each coil holds the other. The torus has been identified as a theoretical shape of the universe. This model suggests it loops back in on itself and is potentially ever expanding. The container keeps growing. We can hold more than we realize. At this moment it’s needed, I’m not feeling held or able to grasp, so I move clay. The container holds life, death, love, hate, liberation, containment and everything in between.
