They know exactly what they’re doing. When a party can’t win fairly, it redraws the rules. When voters of color gain power, they carve up the maps. When communities organize, they try to silence them before they ever reach the ballot box. Louisiana Republicans are now moving to eliminate one of the state’s two majority-Black congressional districts after the Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais weakened key Voting Rights Act protections and opened the door for states to redraw maps in ways that reduce Black voting power. This isn’t democracy. This is a power grab. And it’s not happening in a vacuum. The same political movement that cheers mass deportations — including reports from the ACLU of Louisiana that U.S. citizen children were deported, one while undergoing cancer treatment — is the same movement trying to decide which voters count and which voters can be erased. Call it what it is: racism dressed up as “redistricting.” Cheating dressed up as “strategy.” Minority rule dressed up as “law and order.” But here’s the part they keep forgetting: voting is STILL power. They can gerrymander. They can suppress. They can lie. They can try to make people feel hopeless. But they cannot win if enough of us refuse to sit out. Vote them out. Every enabler. Every coward. Every politician who thinks democracy only counts when they control the outcome. Register. Check your registration. Bring someone with you. Show up like your rights depend on it — because they do. #racism #gerrymandering #Louisiana #vote #VoteThemOut

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, author and scholar Eddie Glaude Jr. asks a deeper question: what stories do we tell ourselves about who we are—and what truths do we leave out? Known for his intellectual rigor and unflinching honesty, Glaude explores the enduring tension between freedom, democracy, and race that has shaped the nation from its founding to today. Drawing from works including Begin Again, We Are the Leaders We Have Been Looking For, and his forthcoming book America, U.S.A.: How Race Shadows the Nation’s Anniversaries, he examines how national celebrations often expose deeper battles over identity, belonging, and power. In this episode of the SALA Pod with Dalen Cuff, Glaude reflects on leadership in an era of polarization, the responsibility of confronting history honestly, and whether America can move forward without reckoning with the myths that continue to shadow its past. A timely conversation about memory, truth, and the unfinished American story. 🔊 Listen via link in bio or wherever you get your Pods. #AmericanDemocracy #Leadership #TruthAndJustice #AmericanHistory #CivilRights
