Yesterday was Elliott Smith’s birthday. Earlier this year, @errorgardener invited me to Elliot’s studio @newmonkeystudio to write some new music inspired by the late goat. The studio is nearly exactly the same as when he left it, filled with his instruments and other relics. Elliott is hands down one of my biggest influences as a songwriter and vocalist, and his music reached at some extremely formative times. This video was the first time I sat down at Elliott’s piano. 🎥 by @brandonrileymiller for Thursdays At The Garden
Yesterday was Elliott Smith’s 56th birthday. For those that don’t know, by some universal grace…I’ve been given opportunities this past year to both honor and contribute to his legacy through various projects via @newmonkeystudio . @killahcortez welcomed me in like family a little over a year ago when he invited me to direct the All My Rowdy Friends broadcast live from The Regent in DTLA for Elliott’s 55th Birthday. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to put together my own sessions at the iconic studio.
Here’s the first look inside that process…a song I wrote while couch surfing at @fridaysatthepark now recorded with the microphones from Figure 8 sessions and the same model guitar that The Beatles recorded “Yesterday.” Filmed entirely by one of the only people I’d ever trust to point a camera at me… @brandonrileymiller . XO
This weekend, I’ll be heading back up to the mountains to skateboard, play drums, and give away flowers with @fridaysatthepark for this years @fwbfest.info .
Come ride with me 🌊🌻
Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit a class that @sashatattooing was teaching on fine line florals in her old studio DTLA. That’s when I met @yaskatattoo , who drew me a beautiful Cosmos that looked just like the ones I used to grow in my old garden.
Saw these on the sidewalk today, so had to make a stop. Thank you again Yaska and Sasha 🌸
There so much to say about the LA I love, but that can all wait for another time. Today, I’m excited to join all my friends in giving back to this city that has given us all so much. LA GIVES BACK returns 1/29 🌹
