Taccuino n.6 ErranteArchitetture. IN THE BACK GARDEN. I Within a mobile and shifting framework—marked by fluctuations in the client’s finances, the skills available on site, and material costs—the construction of Casa BM could only take place through simplifications, approximations, and successive stratifications, according to a poetics of montage in which materials, techniques, and expertise are employed, juxtaposed, and reassembled, generating new associations. Within a perimeter of unstable means and scarcity—between what is missing and what is found—the constraint thus turns into a project opportunity, leading to unexpected outcomes; in the pursuit of spatial quality, the project on site advances through observations and adjustments, taking the everyday as a matter for inquiry and the act of building as the link between knowing and experimenting. The same attitude informs the book, conceived as a sequence of low-resolution photographs that reconstructs the process from a moment of crisis, when it became necessary to reconsider the conditions through which the project could take shape. Through errors, reconsiderations and recalibrations, the images—accompanied by a text that retraces the trajectory of events and its deviations—attest to the double role of photography as a site record and as a design tool, showing how attention to what appears marginal, banal and apparently of no interest—traces, offcuts, remnants—can overturn a horizon of crisis into opportunity. "Taccuini d'architettura" is a series of books exploring the most intimate side by emerging architecture practices in Italy edited by @toninieditore and curated by @nicolo_galeazzi Thanks to @brunettolegno for the support! We are truly delighted to share our essay "SECOND CHANCE: Architecture as an Evidential Practice," featured in the volume Practice in Research 06 – Re-Mediating Practices. When the project is challenged by a changing framework, the epistemological model proposed by Ginzburg promotes the acquisition of situated knowledge that extends beyond the confines of the architectural site, incorporating both human and non-human actors. With the attitude of the bricoleur—observing, weighing, manipulating materials, and rethinking tools—architects avoid the stance of external observers and instead establish relationships of “correspondence” with the world. The two projects presented illuminate a perspective from which to face contingency, to learn from it through that practical and observational engagement that Ingold calls the “art of inquiry”. Drawing attention to apparently secondary aspects and anomalies is, for ErranteArchitetture, an exploratory practice instrumental in shifting attention towards the processes that shape reality. The material traces of time, adaptation of use, and unforeseen events are fragments that, recomposed, shape a new whole open to interpretation. ErranteArchitetture’s practice recognises in overlooked details—traces of real or presumed processes—those spaces of ambiguity and incompleteness capable of activating a profound involvement and a deeper knowledge. Through the mapping and imaginative recomposition of fragments, the project constructs meanings. Within this Benjaminian “constellation of fragments”, everything is included: “even the ‘keepsakes’, more or less useless, more or less affectionately preserved […] become valuable assets for the project,” (R.Bocchi) helping to face today’s and future crises. . . foto: ©Luca Bosco, courtesy of ErranteArchitetture . . #errantearchitetture #abitare #architettura #architecture #architecturelovers

A whimsical Reuse 🔶 ErranteArchitetture turns an anonymous 1960s building at Mount Monviso, Italy into Casa BM combining artistic research and self-construction practices A Whimsical Reuse series explores refined architectural transformations where history is reinterpreted through poetic interventions and contemporary craft. Forgotten spaces gain new life, revealing a dialogue between memory, material, and contemporary ways of living. On the edge of Paesana, beneath the imposing profile of Monviso, a modest 1960s house becomes the ground for a subtle architectural reversal. With Casa BM, @errantearchitetture transforms a neglected structure into a spatial and environmental statement that reorders its fragmented suburban context. Through simple and raw materials, artistic research and self-building techniques the project reframes domestic life while restoring meaning and orientation to a peripheral landscape of the Po Valley A Whimsical Reuse series explores refined architectural transformations where history is reinterpreted through poetic interventions and contemporary craft. From Thisispaper+ Member In the unassuming town of Paesana, at the edge of the Po Valley in Italy, Casa BM designed by ErranteArchitetture emerges quietly yet decisively. What from the street might appear as a modest home among forgettable neighbors is, in fact, a rigorously conceived intervention—part architectural archaeology, part speculative manifesto. Rather than impose itself with spectacle, Casa BM whispers its radicalism through careful subtraction and intelligent extension. @errantearchitetture @luca__bosco Read more at thisispaper.com
