3) Rancho Cucamonga HS
“Square One (Falling)”
Year 3 for myself
The growth of this ensemble in the past 3 years is incredible. We started this iteration in 2023 just trying to make SCPA Finals locally, and two years later came home with a Bronze at World Champs in PSO.
I pitched the WGI Champs trip pretty late in the game; after Fall Season had already started….always trust your gut. When we started seeing the student leaders and parents support come together at the beginning of the Fall, it just felt “it was the right time”.
A few highlights:
-The smoothest WGI Champs Trip I’ve ever taken a high school on, and not by accident. A huge amount of planning and coordination with the amazing parent support and Director James Ana
-Watching the members’ faces light up at Full Retreat just being ecstatic to even be there
-Semis Day we had; a rehearsal in the morning, drove to Kentucky for Semis, then drove BACK for another rehearsal, and the members were still ON FIRE for the rehearsal despite it being the longest day of the entire trip
-Anyone privy to our “floorigami” experiment probably knows my stress involved in making sure it never failed. What started at a chaotic rehearsal in January with a little trust and a lot of questions somehow worked magically thanks to an incredible team and a LOT of careful planning
As an alum of the program (from way too long ago):
-Seeing the trailer in front of the UD Arena got me a little bit
-The “full circle” moment of my first ever WGI trip coming home with a PSA Bronze Medal in 2002 was not lost. The parallels between my first ever WGI experience and this ensemble’s first Dayton Trip made it even more special when they also came home with a PSO Bronze
Most importantly: This was a lifetime memory for all of these students and parents, and I’m thankful for the trust and support from everyone to help make it happen

2) Etiwanda HS
“Talk You Down”
Year 3 for myself
“It takes a village…” applies so much in this activity, but Etiwanda HS reminds me of this constantly. So many moving parts, so many people involved, and all dedicated to getting the best possible experience for the kids. The growth of this ensemble from our first clinics in May until SCPA Championships is an incredible achievement, and we couldn’t do it without such incredible teaching, work ethic, and support.
This is a fantastic program with some incredible history, and I’m proud to be a small part of its legacy. Thanks to everyone involved for making it the best possible experience and program that the students deserve, and I’m already looking forward to what’s to come in 2026 :)

1) POW Percussion
“Letters to my Younger Self”
Year 2 for myself
It is extremely humbling to work with so many incredibly talented performers and staff, and the dedication from everyone involved constantly inspires me as an educator. They had an amazing finals run, and more importantly an incredible season.
I had a very unique opportunity to watch the growth of so many individuals as they grew up in post-covid WGI while moving with me from: Gold Drum Corps, to Gold Indoor, to Pacific Crest, and finally to POW. Knowing they had trust in the team and myself was inspiring daily, and was not something I took lightly. I could not be more proud of the growth each of them has had over the years, and I will always be thankful for their trust in the team and the process. We all grew immensely these past few years together.
Thank you POW, and I am excited to see what we can do next
