Eric Shaw (b. 1983, Connecticut) redefines the space between digital instinct and painterly precision.
Based in Brooklyn, Shaw is a self-taught artist whose bold geometric abstractions pull directly from the visual noise of New York City — street signs, logos, advertisements — all stretched, skewed, and reimagined. What begins as a quick sketch on his phone evolves through copying, pasting, and shifting in digital space before being meticulously translated by hand into acrylic on canvas.
His process is a paradox: improvisational yet exacting. Each composition becomes a layered dialogue between line, color, and shape — where the logic of digital tools meets the discipline of traditional painting.
With punchy palettes, flat forms, and slick surfaces, Shaw’s work echoes Pop art lineage while pushing it forward into a distinctly millennial language. There’s a rhythm to it — fast, intuitive, almost restless — yet carefully constructed, as if every movement has been both discovered and decided.
Bridging the gap between screen and surface, Shaw doesn’t just replicate digital imagery — he transforms it. What feels pixelated becomes tactile. What starts small expands into immersive fields of color and line, pulling the viewer into a dense, layered visual space.
A reminder that painting isn’t replaced by technology — it evolves with it.
