In the 19th century, it was tradition for this shanty to be the final working song to be sung by a ship’s crew after a long voyage, marking the end of their time together at sea. The sailors (or “Johnnys”) say goodbye to their vessel and their shipmates, put their journey to rest, and head home.

Breaking down a section from Two Ways Out: Shapes for Piano, no available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
This is from the fourth and final track “Converge” named after the new dance by @dcresc for which this music was written. And, fittingly, this is where layers of pianos and electronics all come together, converging in the finale after being broken apart into separate phrases.
Here’s a phrase of electronics, built from chopping and pitch-shifting a piano sample, that sounds just before the final entrance of two dueling pianos.

Really enjoying this soothing, atmospheric music for Come Home that will set the stage before the show begins.

This was made by taking the main theme that we recorded on violin and its first variation, recorded on piano, and sampling them. Then those samples are broken down by a granular synthesizer that transforms the music into tiny fragments that are sifted and scattered like sand.
Add to that the sound of waves and seagulls, and it’s a day at the beach.
