“THE TEMPEST” LOOK 2 - THE BENIGN ANIMA Miranda, Prospero’s daughter, embodies the Anima, the feminine side of the male unconscious, or the nurturer archetype, of spiritual, guiding qualities. Her presence signifies love, tenderness, and the innermost feelings and highlights a duality of femininity. Modified excerpts from Tana Smith’s “A Jungian Interpretation of The Tempest,” 1978. On Our Radar: Emerging Designer Jada Chen Inspired by fashions ability to unite, Jada Chen creates clothing for individuals that look beyond the surface when consuming a product, considering alternatives to the garments traditional purpose and application. Drawing inspiration from philosophy, psychology, and the parallels between humanity and nature, Chen’s work reflects the balance found in life’s raw patterns. Growing up in a family of mathematicians, she developed an appreciation for merging technical design with abstract ideas. For Chen’s latest collection, “The Tempest,” the designer went through an intensive research process, immersing herself in the source material. She used clay figureines to experiment with textures and silhouettes, laying the groundwork for the final pieces. We asked Chen about the message she hopes to deliver through her work: “Creativity can transform complex emotions into something meaningful. For me, designing isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about taking all the layers of experience and giving them a purpose. Every feeling, every challenge, can inspire something beautiful. “

“THE TEMPEST” F/W 2024 TEASER ERGO [PROXY] interprets Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” through the lens of Carl Jung. It explores the transformative aspects of human nature by visualizing each character’s Jungian archetype. “THE TEMPEST” envisions a world that merges historic themes with post-apocalyptic ones, juxtaposing brutalist architecture with delicate drapes. The conscious mind wrestles with the conflict between good and evil, seeking to reconcile the positive and negative forces within the unconscious. The interplay between destruction and resurrection, death and rebirth in the play, symbolizes the psychological challenge of harmonizing these dualities. Can the tempest serve as a bridge between these opposites- a catalyst for transformation and a force that also paves a path to reconciliation and freedom? Words cannot begin to express how incredibly grateful I am to the individuals who worked tirelessly to make my vision and dream a reality. Thank you for your endless support and belief in this project and myself. I could not wish for a more amazing team.
