“Courage in our coverage” are the words you’ll see across our website, emails and social media platforms over these next couple weeks — and I honestly can’t think of a better phrase to describe how The 19th has been meeting this moment with rigor and accountability. Our reporting has illuminated the implications of many of the Trump Administration’s stances and policies: downplaying domestic violence and human trafficking; ending the national LGBTQ+ suicide hotline; further restricting abortion access; making cuts to breast cancer research; and sharing misleading information about childhood vaccines.
We’ve spoken with pregnant immigrants who are too afraid of being deported to seek necessary medical care, and we’ve told gutting stories about families ripped apart by immigration raids, centering mothers and young women who are teachers, child care workers and honor roll students.
At a time of escalating threats to press freedom and our democracy, we can’t slow down. We will continue to have courage in our coverage, clarity in our mission and community at our core.
