@heavengallerychicago this Saturday, May 16th, from 12pm-1pm for the Virtual Artist Talk for their current exhibition, Strategies of Resistance: Immigrant Legacies Beyond Assimilation. The Zoom link to the talk is available through the Linktree in their bio.
This exhibition aims to focus on the political strategies used by Tesora Garcia (
@tesoragarcia ), Lorena Molina, hazel batrezchavez (
@hazelbatrezchavez_ ), Martín Wannam (
@martinwannamremix ), Dominique Muñoz (
@domo23 ), and Victor Yañez-Lazcano (
@yanezlazcano ), whose many praxis mainly focuses on their identities coming from Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala, to challenge displacement and recenter their legacies within the United States. Through photography, sculpture, and performance, the featured artworks reveal how language, objects, gestures, and cultural practices can become tools of resistance against the homogenizing forces of the “American” mainstream.
We hope to see you at the virtual artist talk. If you can't make it to the talk, come see the show during gallery hours!
Gallery Hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 1pm-6pm
