Conjuring a soundscape in collaboration with @lyra.pramuk ’s captivating vocals for @jakob_kudsk_steensen ’s new work “The Song Trapper”.
We all worked closely together crafting the tone, sonic narrative, and imagining ways the voice can carry connection.
Lyra and I work in Ableton for creation of sounds, arrangement, exploration. When the soundscape in stereo felt good… I printed 175 stems, placed into Pro Tools for sound field creation. Individual sounds weave within the sound field.
I like to use hand drawn spatial audio movements shown in these clips as the red dot in the blue box. It provides quick (or slow) free form motion adding a humanized feel. Clips seen here are spatializing individual sounds in a 7.1 surround sound field. 🎧 to hear spatialization.

Vertical renders of the Loon with watercolor paintings by @brienoelart . The paintings are texture mapped onto 3D models.
We wanted this to feel like a shrinking world. Kind of like being in a snow globe. The skybox is made of felt and watercolor with volumetric clouds creating movement behind it.
Sound is utilized as a storytelling device by placing spatialized poetry strategically around this world. Certain sounds will follow you or move away from you…
The landscape is a moving watercolor painting with its normal map exaggerated. On top of that layer is the same landscape, but with a single water layer to give sheen.
The work reflects Alzheimer’s disease with realities merging, patient and caretaker bound together in a fading memory.
The Loon is a poetic account of witnessing a loved one battle Alzheimer’s disease.

“Nocturnal Fugue Suite 1”
From our sound artist, Matt McCorkle, “I love working with bat vocalizations, they have such unique communication methods. Their vocalizations are interesting textures to use like instruments. Stretching them, pitching them, and integrating them naturally into soundscapes.
So when @jia.bao.li asked me to collaborate on a piece for her exhibition “Progenitorial Hysteresis” at the Duende Art Museum in China, I was super excited.
With the help of AI, researchers found bats have more complex language than previously thought, with individual names, the ability to argue over food, and vocal learning.
Jiabao and I conceived of the idea to use bat vocalizations mixed with modern sound and music technologies. To convey a sense of connection between bat’s complex language structures and human crafted sonic vibes.
This post contains two teasers from the interactive exhibition that went up on December 24th, 2023. The first is using echolocation and vocalizations bats use in isolation. The second is integrating social calls used by bats in their colonies.”
“Antipsychotic” is an official selection at @sxsw 2024. We’re creating a special installation featuring tactile haptic integrations, binaural spatial sound, and an immersive 3 screen triptych display. #antipsychoticxr #sxsw2024
