Day two of our eco-filming adventures with the wonderful Lisa and Paolo from @EPFCNorth ! We finished up our film and used water from the Fraser estuary mixed with locally gathered plants to mix up a plant developer brew! Lisa and Paolo also showed us how to make caffenol developer from ordinary kitchen staples (including instant coffee!) and we started working on our film. They even brought a projector with them so we could see what we filmed at the end of the session! The flower brew and caffenol worked great on the super8 film. The mystery double 8mm film from 1972 is going to take a bit more coaxing to see what we can make visible, but that's the joy of experimentation and working with local materials and analogue film! Huge thanks to Lisa and Paolo for coming out to Steveston to generously share their knowledge, and thanks to everyone who came out and contributed to this unique film! Also a big thanks to @rcaresrgives  @anhbc and @vancouverfdn for financially supporting this project. Stay tuned for a digital version of the movie to be shared in the near future... EAST VAN BICYCLE FILM FESTIVAL – Sat. August 23 and Sun. August 24 What happens when you combine two of the most beautiful things in life together?? You get LOVE!!!! PURE LOVE!!!! BICYCLES + CINEMA = LOVE!!! EPFC North in collaboration with friends and community bicycle partners are EXCITED to present the 3rd “sometimes annual” Bicycle Film Festival!!! All events, workshops and screenings are FREE and take place at Victoria Park. Or at least we will meet there at the START time listed and see where the wind (and our bicycles take us). SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 (10 – 3PM) FILMMAKING, SOUND RECORDING AND ECO-PROCESSING WORKSHOP! • We are so EXCITED to partner with our friends from the PATCHBAY Collective to bring you a day of Super 8 filmmaking, 16mm exploration and soundscape adventures as we make a community film together roaming the neighbourhood celebrating sounds and images and then eco-process the magic combination in PLANTS and LOVE! Your film will screen Sunday night with the EPFC Filmcycle!!! SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 (8PM) COMMUNITY BICYCLE RIDE AND FILM SCREENING #1 • Hop on those bikes and ride!!!! The first of two film screenings that will drift through the streets of East Van screening films of wonder and joy with the EPFC Filmcycle!!! SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 (10 – 1PM) CYANOTYPES & 16mm DIRECT ANIMATION WORKSHOP • We are so EXCITED to partner with our friend and talented artist Rachel Foster to bring you a day of Cyanotype using her unique birdsong spectrogram process!!! Truly Magical!!! And concurrently, we will host a 16mm direct animation drop-in artmaking session to keep everyone engaged and excited!! Your films and images of the finished Cyanotypes will screen later that night with the EPFC Filmcycle!!! SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 (8PM) COMMUNITY BICYCLE RIDE AND FILM SCREENING #2 • You got it!!! Because ONCE is NOT ENOUGH!!!! The second of two film screenings that will drift through the streets of East Van screening films of JOY and WONDER with the EPFC Filmcycle!!! This night will feature ALL the films made during the East Van Bicycle Film Festival Weekend. Not to be missed!!!
