đ Neighbourhood houses, including @marpolenh and @southvannh , are warm, welcoming spaces where people find connection and belonging.
During Neighbourhood House Week, we celebrate the inclusive programs that support children, youth, families, seniors and newcomers across our communities.
Join me this week to thank the workers and volunteers who make these neighbourhood houses such vital community anchors.

What does a connected community really look like?
It looks like neighbours sharing meals, newcomers finding support, families building friendships, and local spaces filled with opportunity. Across BC, neighbourhood houses are helping make that happen every day, bringing people together in ways that strengthen both individuals and the communities around them.
When people feel connected, entire communities benefit. Social isolation decreases, trust grows, and people are more likely to support the places and businesses around them. Itâs about creating communities where everyone feels they belong, and where local connections truly matter.
This Neighbourhood House Week, step into something bigger.
Join us May 3â9 to experience it for yourself, drop by, explore, and take a tour with us!

May 5 is Red Dress Day, an annual day to honour, remember, and raise awareness about the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).
Red Dress Day was inspired by the REDress Project, created by MĂŠtis artist Jaime Black. The project began as an art installation first displayed at the University of Winnipeg in 2011 and involves the hanging of red dresses in public spaces. Since then, it has been replicated in communities across Canada. The empty red dresses symbolize the absence and loss of thousands of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people as a result of colonial violence.
To honour the lives that have been lost, we invite our neighbours to unlearn the principles of colonization and to learn about the impacts of systemic racism on Indigenous peoples. As settlers in the country now known as Canada, we carry a responsibility not only to educate ourselves about this history, but also to actively challenge and unlearn the oppressive legacies of colonization.
There are many Indigenous teachers, artists, advocates, and visionaries who are willing to share their knowledge and lived experiences. Our role is to listen, learn, and act with respect and accountability.

Whether youâre new to the area or just getting established, every neighbourhood has a network that helps it thrive.
Neighbourhood houses are part of that networkâbringing people together, supporting families, and strengthening the communities that local businesses are such an important part of. We value the role businesses play in making our neighbourhoods vibrant, and weâd love to connect and say hello.
We are vibrant non-profit hubs where people can connect, grow, learn, and access essential programs and services. Each one is a welcoming âcommunity living roomâ â a place where everyone belongs.
Offering programs and services from newborns to seniors across the Greater Vancouver area, these connections help create stable, supported communities where both neighbours and businesses can thrive.
Welcome to our community, Welcome to your neighbourhood house! If youâre a local business, weâd love to meet youâstop by, say hi, and connect with us during Neighbourhood House Week (NHW). This year NHW will be May 3â9âwe hope to see you there!

This Earth Day, we pause to honour the land and rethink our role.đ
From the water we depend on, to the air we breathe, to the land that sustains us, every image here reflects our shared responsibility to care for the planet and each other.
At ANHBC, Land Justice means recognizing the land as a living partner. One with a voice, a history, and deep relationships rooted in Indigenous stewardship. It means learning, unlearning, and taking everyday actions that protect water, respect ecosystems, and put the land first in our work.
As you scroll through how we practice what we preach, we invite you to reflect, stay curious, and join us on this ongoing journey toward climate care, reconciliation, and collective responsibility today and every day.

This week, we are celebrating the people who make it all possible at ANHBC!
This National Volunteer Appreciation Week, weâre shining a light on the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to support our work at ANHBC. Their compassion and commitment help build stronger, more connected communities where everyone feels welcome.
To our volunteers: your impact is felt every single day. Thank you for showing up, for caring deeply, and for helping create spaces where people truly belong. Weâre grateful for you, today and always!

At ANHBC, child care is more than care, itâs community. Every child, family, and educator contributes and learns from each other.
Governments committed to creating up to 40,000 new child care spaces, but progress has slowed and access remains out of reach for many families. Across our Neighbourhood Houses alone, more than 12,000 children are on waitlists. And while ANHBC operates 2,615 child care spaces, only 691 are currently part of the $10aDay program.
Universal $10aDay child care is essential for healthy, connected communities but without investment, programs and families are left in uncertainty.

Affordable $10aDay child care helps parents, especially women, return to work, support their families, and stay connected to their communities.
Governments committed to reducing child care fees to an average of $10/day and cutting costs by 50% but many families are still facing high fees and limited access.
Without sustained investment, these commitments are at risk and families will continue to struggle.
