âAbiotic Factorsâ, is the opening track of Patricia Wolfâs upcoming album âYarrowâ.
Abiotic factors - for those of us who skipped that particular biology lesson - are the non-living environmental conditions that determine whether an organism can exist at all: light availability, temperature, rainfall, wind, soil composition. They are the infrastructure beneath the visible world, the silent set of forces that a plant cannot choose but must simply work with, adapt to, or perish. As a concept for an opening track, itâs contemplative and a perfect orientation into the album... which youâll all hear in its entirety soon little seedlings.
The video, which weâre premiering today, was shot in Wolfâs Portland neighbourhood, through the lens of Edward Pack Davee, the filmmaker behind the Hrafnamynd documentary Wolf scored last year.
âThe footage was originally made for a project called âSounds of Hopeâ, presented at the University of Tulsa, and it felt right to give it a second life here.â

Still thinking about this great experience. Huge thanks to @pan.thorarensen of @extremechill & @spaceodyssey_musicspace for hosting Hrafnamynd in ReykjavĂk. It was an amazing experience and Iâm forever grateful to have met so many great people, reconnected with old friends, and had so many great discussions with so much great feedback. Thank you so much to @foundationforcontemporaryarts for making it financially possible for me to attend, as this was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant. And a big thank you to the great đˇ: @omarsverriss for capturing these moments.

Hrafnamynd is a film that developed organicallyâwithout a set plan, only a longing to return to the mysterious landscapes of my early childhood and to capture the presence of Icelandic ravens.
I wanted to see Iceland through their eyes. To disappear into their world.
Years earlier, I had done something similar with Crowfilm, documenting the crows of Portland, Oregon. Over six years, I returned to Iceland time and again, often staying in remote places along the west coast. These periods of solitude brought me back to my fatherâs old photo slides.
Looking at them anew, I realized my journeys as an adult were retracing paths from nearly fifty years earlier. The film emerged from this reflectionânaturally, quietly.
During the editing phase, I began working with Patricia Wolf. Her music resonated so instinctively with the images that a collaboration quickly took shape. We developed an original score and immersive sound design that ultimately lifted Hrafnamynd beyond what I ever imagined.
Next week the HRAFNAMYND tour begins!
