@olskool_icegre joins @b.boys.underground to talk about his new project “Songs About Girls” (available now on all streaming platforms now!), the concept behind the record, and the bigger conversation around Adult Contemporary Hip Hop.
If you know his history with Ye & Good Music, his group @abstractmindstate with @epdahellcat
His work behind the scenes, and his push to carve out space for the traditional boom bap sound of rap music, then you already know this is bigger than a routine album promo.
This is a real conversation about perspective, storytelling, and staying rooted in the culture.

Short Film / documentary alert
What's up good people? We present to you our latest visual project titled Still Paying...An Abstract European Experience. This short film documentary takes you with us as we embark on our very first tour of Europe as the official opening act for our family, and Hip Hop royalty @officialslumvillage . Our brothers extended us the opportunity to travel across the pond to promote our upcoming album (at the time), The Art Project, and as yall know, we accepted. Being on the road in the U.S. with @t3slum and @youngrj313 is a movie, so imagine 30 days in Europe 😵💫🤯😎. These guys are serious business but extremely fun and straight up hilarious! Our favorite go-to, Honest Films own, Emmy Award Winning Television Producer Trizonna McClendon sat in the Director/Producer chair once again to take a gang of random footage from an idea to something for all to enjoy. Touring the world was a bucket list item for Abstract Mindstate, and although we've been blessed and fortunate enough to travel overseas since, this first experience will forever be one of our fondest memories as a group. Visit our official YouTube page (@ AbstractMindstateOfficial) to enjoy this short film/documentary and make sure you subscribe to the page, like, and comment or click the Linktree in our bio on Instagram.

Wow!!! This one really hit close. R.I.P to our brethern the Refugee Camp All-Star @john_forte . We tried our hardest to work with only creatives we absolutely love and respect on our latest album, and the good brother John Forté was very high on that list. This brother started following us when we released our previous album, and he'd like everything we posted related to it. We were almost in shock and couldn't believe it was really him until he gave us confirmation. John Forté is an artist from our era whose music we absolutely loved. His voice, flow, style, and demeanor were just so dope to Abstract Mindstate. When we reached out asking if he'd be down to collab with us on Hypophora, it felt like a shot in the dark. Not only was this brother all for it, but he was excited about it. He wrote the verse and got it back to us in 2 days (record time for an artist). He did an incredible job, and we felt his verse was super fire! We may have the only verse from him since he got back home. It's definitely the only one in 2025, and that's very special to us. Regardless of what hasn't happened with The Art Project, our collaboration with John Forté remains to be an extremely high note for us as it relates to Hip Hop. Thank you, John Forté for being so normal and real in an industry full of "important people." May you rest peacefully, and God keep you. Our sincerest condolences go out to his wife and kids, his entire Refugee Camp family, and all of his friends and fans across the globe. Even though we never got to hang out with you, the energy you gave us will be missed, and we're forever grateful for the opportunity to work with you less than a year ago. 🕊 💜 ✊🏾

New episode! We’ve got @olskool_icegre and @epdahellcat AKA @abstractmindstate joining us to talk about their new album with @youngrj313 of Slum Village called “The Art Project”. We’ll hear about the process of creating the album, their approach to addressing a new generation of rappers and much more. Then we have an energetic discussion about their album pick for this episode - “One For All” by Brand Nubian, which includes a never before told story about Abstract Mindstate opening a show for Grand Puba and 2Pac at Tougaloo College in the early ‘90s. #EPDaHellcat discusses the crucial distinction between Content and Art! This is a very significant differentiation. In today's digital age, where information flows at an unprecedented rate, understanding the difference is vital. Content generally refers to any material or information created to inform, entertain, or engage an audience, such as social media posts, blogs, or videos. Meanwhile, art is often seen as a form of expression that transcends functionality, aiming to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and convey deeper meanings. This distinction is important because while all art can be considered content, not all content achieves the status of art.
For instance, a viral meme might captivate millions but lacks the depth and introspection typically associated with a painting by Kehinde Wiley. Similarly, statistics show that people are bombarded with an estimated 5,000 advertisements daily, yet only a few of these could be considered artistic due to their emotional impact or innovative design. Recognizing the difference helps creators and audiences appreciate the intent and value behind various forms of media. Understanding this allows for a more discerning consumption and creation of both content and art.
