what a beautiful experience filming the Wait music video for @powderpaintband 🖤💗🖤
most of my video ideas (/ideas in general) never make it to release, so it’s amazing to get to bring a vision like this so fully to life
I’ve wanted to do the classic ‘band in a forest’ music video forever. it was the most fun, the most hot (we shot this mid-August) and so, SO much planning
you would not believe how many moving parts there were to pulling this off. it took months of work, not to mention needing to account for things going wrong on the day - which three major things did!! but thanks to contingency plans, staying calm, and the kindness of others we ended up with *exactly* what we wanted and still finished up in enough time to skedaddle before they locked us in the car park. I have truly never been so proud of or felt so in sync with a team thank you all so much 💓

If you’ve been following me for a minute hopefully you’re hype already, if not:
@powderpaintband is my 80s-inspired synthpop project with @envgen !! I write chaotic synth lines and (sort of?) upbeat lyrics while she puts orchestral stabs on everything and turns every chord into a diminished 7th
took a long break for a bunch of reasons but we’re officially BACK and our new single is genuinely among the best songs I’ve ever written and of course the video already slaps and we’ve only just started editing I cannot WAIT to show you hnnngh
go follow us @powderpaintband , Bandcamp, and anywhere that’s not Spotify to be notified as soon as we release new music! 🎶
we will take a bit of a hit from this for sure, not so much in terms of money but in terms of exposure to new listeners as we know some people discovered us via Spotify’s algorithm
however best we understand most people discovered us via mastodon, Reddit, and good old word of mouth, which is exactly how like it. we’re never gonna be mainstream and don’t wanna make appealing to money engines our priority
we think people who listen to bands like us are mostly those who care about underground music and supporting those artists, so we really hope that you’ll give quitting Spotify some thought - again, even if you’re sticking to pure streaming, ALL other providers support artists better at the same or reduced cost, and aren’t the literal worst streaming service there is
we just wanna get more people thinking about this kind of thing. thank you for listening and see you in the other places 🎵💗🎶
