A 60-inch screen, suspended on industrial aluminum bars, loops a 15-minute compilation of young women on TikTok, their bodies hyper-feminized, their faces eerily softened by an AI-powered cartoon filter. The effect is unsettling—a clash between adult-coded sensuality and the saccharine innocence of animated characters. The filters erase imperfections, smoothing skin, enlarging eyes, and distorting proportions, pushing the already unattainable aesthetics of online beauty into something disturbingly infantile.
The videos are deliberately slowed down, stretching fleeting, algorithm-driven moments into something contemplative, almost hypnotic. This manipulation of time heightens the unease, emphasizing the gap between digital fantasy and physical reality. The seductive postures, intimate gazes, and stylized femininity contrast sharply with the childlike, doll- like faces, exposing an aesthetic paradox that feels both alluring and deeply uncanny.
Positioned in the space with its backside fully visible, the screen’s exposed wiring and structure underscore the physicality of the device, reinforcing the idea that the medium itself is just as important as the message. The apparatus is not just a passive display—it is the infrastructure that carries and distorts these digital identities, much like the platforms that dictate how beauty is consumed and performed.
This piece exists within a broader reflection on the way technology reshapes human representation, questioning the visual culture of social media, the gamification of self- image, and the erasure of bodily imperfections in favor of algorithmic desirability.
