Exhibition bit by bit | HARUKA MISAWA @misawadesigninstitute venue: ADI Design Museum (Milan, ITALY) @adidesignmuseum MON 20 Apr. 2026 – SUN 7 Jun. 2026 Opening Hours: 10:30 – 20:00 (during Design Week: until 21:00) Opening: MON 20 Apr. 2026 12:00 Admission: Free Exhibition by: ADI Design Museum Curated by: Nippon Design Center, Misawa Design Institute Art Direction: Haruka Misawa Design: Haruka Misawa, Masaki Suzuki, Tomoaki Yanagisawa, Mayu Mizuno, Mai Hosokai Partner: Paper and People The first solo exhibition in Italy dedicated to Haruka Misawa, one of the leading figures in contemporary Japanese design. The title bit by bit refers to a methodology based on minimal variations, careful observation, and almost imperceptible gestures. In contrast to today’s visual saturation, Misawa’s practice invites us to pause and reconsider the ordinary, revealing unexpected possibilities embedded within everyday materials and phenomena. Through a process of accumulation and subtle transformation, the work uncovers hidden structures and expands perception. #HarukaMisawa #BitByBit #ADIDesignMuseum #MilanDesignWeek #JapaneseDesign

Raised by a mother who worked as a wildlife documentary director, Yamada grew up observing living creatures in the wild. The exhibition draws on that sensibility and presents her world as a rich polyphony, where nature, organisms, and landscape resonate through complex melodies rather than a single controlled harmony. Exhibition Tomoko Mukaiyama “Act of Fire” venue: Arts Maebashi (Maebashi, Gunma, JAPAN) SAT 24 Jan. 2026 – SUN 22 Mar. 2026 Opening Hours: 10:00 – 18:00 (Admission until 17:30) Closed: Wednesdays (open on FEB 11 [Wed, holiday] and closed on FEB 12 [Thu]) This large-scale solo exhibition marks Tomoko Mukaiyama’s first full museum presentation, transforming all six underground galleries of Arts Maebashi into a theatrical corridor. The exhibition reconfigures key works such as wasted (2009), the tsunami-stricken grand pianos of nocturne (2011), and the new video poem KOKOKARA (2025), weaving them into an immersive journey through memory, loss, resistance, anger, and rebirth. The title “Act of Fire” signals both an intimate ritual rooted in Mukaiyama’s own body and history, and a gesture of confronting contemporary realities — gender inequality, intensifying natural disasters, and ongoing global conflicts — by using fire as a primal medium of reflection and illumination. @tomokoamsterdam Organizer:Arts Maebashi Special Cooperation:Tomoko Mukaiyama Foundation, Multus Production Support:LUFTZUG/Yutaka Endo, Reinier van Brummelen Curators:Takenori Miyamoto, Misaki Azuma Promotional Design:Yuri Suyama, Minami Ogahara Grant:Japan Arts Council Fonds Podiumkunsten, Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst Support:Jomo Shimbun, Gunma TV, FM GUNMA, Maebashi CITY FM, Maebashi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Special Thanks:PIANO PLAZA GUNMA, Maebashi Galleria, Yurinkan, Kiryu City #TomokoMukaiyama #ActOfFire #ArtsMaebashi #ContemporaryArt #InstallationArt

Exhibition 100 FLŌRA by Kenta Umemoto venue: ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO | KURA (Kyoto, JAPAN) MON 5 Jan. 2026 – WED 25 Feb. 2026 Opening Hours: 11:00 – 20:00 (Hours based on gallery schedule) Presented by: ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO | KURA Paris-based photographer Kenta Umemoto has expanded his long-term project with A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE titled “TYPE-VIII Kenta Umemoto project,” which features his FLŌRA flower series on garments and textiles. 100 FLŌRA is a new photographic print series that deepens this exploration, giving floral imagery fresh expression and depth through advanced print techniques. The exhibition presents 100 works printed with inkjet technology, where ultra-fine ink particles sprayed on paper fuse conventional color expression with mirror-like reflection. Umemoto treats the inkjet device not as a “reproduction machine” but as a drawing tool, creating images that reveal subtle shifts in light, metallic sheen, and the unique granularity of silver pigment. The silver pigment reacts with oxygen and humidity in the air, causing slight color changes and density variations. Umemoto describes this phenomenon as “argentation,” allowing each work’s surface to evolve over time and to present different expressions depending on the moment of viewing. #100FLORA #KentaUmemoto #ISSEYMIYAKEYKYOTO #KURA #PhotographyArt

The exhibition reframes natural markings—such as insect traces, knots, bends, and discoloration—not as flaws but as memories shaped by life and time. By revealing these characteristics rather than concealing them, the exhibition offers a renewed perspective on the individuality, depth, and quiet beauty inherent in wood. It invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between humans and trees and the layers of time embedded in this living material. #TracesOfLife #Karimoku #KarimokuCommons #WoodDesign #ShizukaTatsuno

Exhibition “Learning from Design Maestros” venue: 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT (Tokyo, Japan) @2121designsight FRI 21 Nov. 2025 – SUN 8 Mar. 2026 Opening Hours: 10:00 – 19:00 (Entrance until 18:30) Closed: Tuesdays, December 27 – January 3 Organised by: 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT / THE MIYAKE ISSEY FOUNDATION Exhibition Directors: Noriko Kawakami, Kaoru Tashiro Human encounter provides avenues to think about the future of life and society. In this age of dramatically changing values, with its fast flows of mass information, we might wish to look back and consider masters who used design to articulate diverse viewpoints. The exhibition introduces six towering figures under the label of Design Maestros — Bruno Munari (Italy), Max Bill (Switzerland), Achille Castiglioni (Italy), Otl Aicher (Germany), Enzo Mari (Italy) and Dieter Rams (Germany) — and includes the perspective of Shutaro Mukai whose friendship with Max Bill and Otl Aicher laid the foundation for the Science of Design in Japan. The exhibition uses documentary film to show the human dimensions of the six designers’ endeavours, in their own words, and puts this alongside their representative masterworks. It invites visitors to reflect on what these designers expected from their followers, and how we too should be independent and proactive. #learningfromdesignmaestros #212121designsight #designmaestros
