Mensho still lives up to the hype, with quality that has held up over the years. Creamy, rich broth and top-tier thick, chewy noodles anchor every bowl, with protein options ranging from chicken and lamb to even A5 wagyu. The vegan options are equally thoughtful. During my 18-month stint as a vegetarian, I was able to try all three, and they delivered.
We waited about an hour before getting inside, but the time passed quickly. The line becomes a hangout of sorts, groups of friends plotting ramen orders, debating nightcaps, or slipping across the street to Pasha SF for a quick cocktail. Inside, the space is small but surprisingly comfortable, never feeling cramped. Our party of five fit in just fine. Exactly the kind of meal that sets the tone before heading out for a proper nightcap at our next stop:

This is the kind of bar a seasoned, well-traveled guest would ask locals about. Not the guidebook recommendation, but the place people point you to when you want to drink where the neighborhood actually drinks. Inside, the bar feels clean and refreshed, almost newly remodeled, while still giving off lived-in, cozy vibes. This is a true local bar, with affordable pours like $5 pints of Modelo on draft and $10 beer-and-shot specials, many named after beloved neighborhood dive bars that no longer exist—think Tequila and Tecate - The Hemlock, or Fernet and PBR -Joel’s.
There’s an art wall that rotates regularly with new work, an impressively felted pool table with pink felt, shuffleboard, and of course, a photo booth. Out back, a spacious patio keeps things social and 420-friendly. A new neon sign out front now lights the bar’s name, funded through a city grant in partnership with the TLCBD. Altogether, it delivers real Cheers energy—yes, the ’80s sitcom set in a bar, for our younger foodies—and absolutely deserves a spot on your next night out in San Francisco.
