Rendang is not actually the name of a food. But it refers to the length of time it takes to cook the meat so that its texture becomes tender and dry and has a spice aroma so that the meat is brownish. This cooking technique makes rendang have a very delicious taste. Until CNN on July 12, 2017, rendang was ranked as the most delicious food in the world. On April 9, 2018, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) included rendang as one of the 5 national specialties along with soto, fried rice, satay, and gado-gado. Initially, rendang was made from buffalo meat and was only enjoyed at certain traditional events. Because rendang occupies the highest caste among other dishes and is often referred to as kepalo samba or the mother of food in the Minangkabau tradition based on Reno Andam Suri's writing in Rendang Traveler: Menyingkap Bertuahnya Rendang Minang (2012) Actually, the tradition of preserving meat has long been known by the Minangkabau people. This preservation process is of course carried out traditionally without using chemicals. In the process of cooking rendang, the Minangkabau people believe that rendang has 3 meanings of attitude, namely patience, wisdom, and perseverance to produce good quality rendang. One of the reasons why this typical West Sumatran dish can spread to various places is because of the tradition of migrating which is usually done by Minangkabau people who bring rendang as provisions because it can last up to a month. Until now, rendang is not only served for traditional events but has become a dish that can be eaten every day.

Achievements unlocked! It feels quite tiring but (of course) incredibly happy. Just finished a solo exhibition in Jakarta a month ago, then immediately started preparing for the next solo exhibition in Germany. I feel that I'm not very good at putting all this together in words, for now I can only say thank you to all those who have helped make this exhibition happen... of course Volkmar Hoppe @hoppevolkmar who has helped a lot and organized this exhibition, Reza @muhrez68 who documented this memorable moment, Mas Yani @yanipatrik and Evelyn @aiueorg , who took the time to stop by to visit on the opening night, @vandayuli for the 'Kemilau' batik shirt ( still have it and turns out it still fits ✨👔), friends in the media who have helped write and publish about this exhibition. And I will never forget the friendliness of the people of Mühltal-Darmstadt who welcomed us warmly and kindly. Thank you for coming to appreciate my work and chat about many things. I met many new friends here, such an amazing experience. In the end, we're all just ordinary people who find ways to survive in the city. The true spirit from Jakarta to Darmstadt. Vielen Dank für diesen unvergesslichen Moment 🥂 Prost! 🇮🇩✨🇩🇪

Travel is... ...answering the question ‘business or pleasure’ without blinking. ...learning not to take every second for granted. ...where broken English is welcomed with a wide smile instead of greeted by a grammar nazi. ...where people that you talk to really try to understand what you’re trying to say. ...finding out more reasons to write. And more reasons to live. ...sometimes, is the rediscovery of our nationalism. ...that one stranger across the street you will always wonder if he/she is your soulmate. ...wearing those clothes you couldn’t wear back home. ...realizing that maybe you know nothing.

Travel is..  ...the simple chance of reinventing ourselves at new places where we are nobody but a stranger.  ...the discovery of what and who we miss the most.  ...the same pair of jeans for a week and different experiences every day. ...is finding new things and new people to miss. ...discovering the part of yourself that you never knew existed before. ...that one song in your iPod that will forever remind you of that one sexy afternoon somewhere. ...deciding who will be the last call before you take off and the first call after you land. ...realizing the things you cannot live without.

Travel is  ...a test of your physical and emotional tolerance. ...a one hour conversation that could lead to a lifelong friendship. ...that one boarding pass you keep in your wallet to remind yourself one day when you’re gray and old that you were once cool. ...waking up in a strange bed and feeling home and waking up in your own bed one day and feeling like a stranger. ...is learning that the journey is as memorable as the destination. ...discovering that a random act of kindness does exist. ...learning to communicate with just a smile. ...not wanting to sleep because for once reality is more interesting than your dream. ...not being afraid to fall in love with a complete stranger. Travel is... meeting you

📍London, somewhere in March 🔎 a short excerpt from the interview text with Katrin Figge: ...the wealth and cultural diversity that exists in Indonesia is certainly a pride for us. Indonesia's presence at the London Book Fair will bring "the sea" as a theme that ushered in the travel of our books to unexpected places, forms and times. This concept is visualized into water waves or ripples that move dynamically from one point and resonate extensively. The theme "17,000 Islands of Imagination" was applied in the design of the pavilion, graphics, and video, with the concept above. In this case, as an archipelagic country, the sea is also an inseparable part of the life of the Indonesian people. This also underlies my idea of making seafloor-themed works, also on the basis of conceptual and technical considerations. I use the dominant colors in blue. There is a term that knowledge is broad, as deep as the ocean, increases and multiplies many times, there is much that we can meet, learn, and explore to expand our knowledge. Dive into knowledge and deepen the experience, I translate it into visual underwater oceans that still hold many mysteries, always inviting human curiosity in acquiring knowledge, and books are a human medium to get that knowledge. I made the murals spontaneously, without sketching them first, for me this was very challenging, as well as fun because I didn't have to fully control the media I used. All I do is flowing, freeing the imagination as long as possible, responding to space in the Indonesian pavilion from the bottom to the top. I made it about 5 hours from the first day until it ended on Friday, March 14. I think when the event ended, the organizer had dismantled the construction of the pavilion and the murals that I had made and brought it somewhere. I don't really think about the fate of the mural. For me, this is common when we make works that are both direct and temporary and have limitations, especially in terms of the time of their existence.
