Year 11…..GCSE’s, Prom Night and Leaver’s Assembly…it’s a wrap! New beginnings for our Milly, kicking off with her volunteering trip to Peru in a few weeks time. She’ll be embracing rural life: camping, bucket showers and long treks, whilst getting stuck into community-based projects; building schools and toilet facilities. It’s a huge step outside her comfort zone and we are very proud of her for taking on the challenge. As part of her fundraising for the trip, Milly is taking part in a 5k park run tomorrow. This photo was taken of my beautiful, loving,supportive, joyful mum on my wedding day. Today marks 5 years since her death, and it has taken all of these years for me to understand what grief really is and appreciate what it has taught me…. I have learnt that the pain of losing someone who was your everything alters you forever but the change gives you a deeper connection to yourself as you look inwards to heal. I have learnt that if we try to turn away from the pain it can become bigger, and in finding the courage to face it, you can bear it. It has taught me the importance of compassion. That we are connected to one another in our loss and in sharing we can feel less alone in our grief. I thought that I would not see my mum again… but I see her everywhere. We go through the seasons together, her thoughts, her sayings, her love for life all shaped me, she continues to colour my days. I have learnt that the sadness does lift and overtime you do feel joy again. There is a brightening on the road ahead.
