Non-monogamy is hard for men. Not because men are broken. Because some of the fear is ancient. For most of human history, jealousy, mate-guarding, comparison, and fear of being replaced were tied to survival. Belonging. Status. Family. Paternity. Protection. Legacy. There were no paternity tests. No birth control. No 300 matches in your partners Feeld dms A woman’s sexual choices carried massive risk for her. A man’s fear of being replaced carried real consequences. Fast forward 300,000 years. The world has changed. Our nervous systems did not get the hardware update. So yes, many men in #ENM relationships struggle deeply with the physical reality of sharing their partner. And when that fear comes out clumsily, it can look like sexism, control, misogyny, or a double standard. But underneath that reaction is often something more human: Fear. Attachment. Grief. Comparison. The terror of not mattering. Women have their own ancient alarms too. Fear of losing emotional investment. Fear of losing time, affection, and resources. And very real concerns around physical safety with new men. No wonder most people look at open relationships and say, “Absolutely not,” and choose peace and Netflix. But I’m proud of how Eden and I have entered this experiment with love, compassion, and a willingness to sit in the fire together. We are not pretending the fire isn’t hot. We are learning how to stop throwing each other into it. There is nothing wrong with you for feeling discomfort. And your discomfort is still not permission to control someone. That’s the work. Met a dating coach last week who teaches that when a woman says she has a boyfriend, it’s just a test. Brother… no.
