Flos Virilis (The Masculine Flower) explores how young men navigate dominant ideals of masculinity while seeking connection to nature, emotion, and vulnerability. Through interviews, flower-picking, and experimental photography, the project offers an intimate look at masculinity as a space of care, resistance, and ecological empathy.
Flowers were also used for the development of the photographs, brewed for an hour and transformed into a solution used to develop the photographic film.
The project publication was designed by @vwioleth , thoughtfully gathering together all the outcomes, and I am beyond grateful for everyone contributing to the interview and photography making.

Ema’s project Flos Virilis (The Masculine Flower) explores how young men navigate dominant ideals of masculinity while seeking connection to nature, emotion, and vulnerability. Through interviews, flower-picking,
and experimental photography, the project offers an intimate look at masculinity as a space of care, resistance, and ecological empathy.
The symbolic image of flowers in this project serves as a bridge to explore themes of gender and feminism. Flowers also act as a developing
agent- both metaphorically and literally- bringing forth the latent image on photographic film. Each image was created using bouquets personally
selected by the participants.
