Our first guests checked in exactly a year ago & what a trip it has been 💚
And in a rather timely manner please welcome to the world our new film!
We wanted to intertwine our true nature into this; to capture the wilds, the treehouses, the experience, the love, the swimming, the food and the music. All with a little sprinkling of magic dust that you might become aware of…. Especially if you’re lucky when you visit the website 🌵
We are here to Rewild Things.
The land and all she holds as well as us and our connection to the incredible power of nature and all her diversity, colour and sheer majesty. 🐾
A mighty team effort to make this. Thanks to our friend Burgs @burgsmeditation for allowing us to use his wonderful words from ‘It’s Time To Remember’ (google it..) and to all the crew who filmed, edited, composed and acted.
With love. More soon.

A compilation to honour the mighty tree spade 🌳
There is something endlessly mesmerising about watching a tree spade at work. The precision, the power, the way it can carefully lift and relocate entire trees never gets old 🌱
This is what one day with a tree spade looked like!
8 x Hazels (because you can never have too many 🤪), 5 x Oaks, 2 x Alders and 2 x Limes were all given the room they need to thrive in new spaces.
These trees were carefully removed from a dense woodland in need of thinning. While it can sometimes feel counterintuitive, selective thinning plays an important role in creating healthier, more resilient woodlands. By opening up the canopy and reducing competition for light, water and nutrients, it allows remaining trees and ground flora to flourish, encouraging a richer, more complex multi-layered habitat full of life.
A little more light. A little more space. A woodland with the opportunity to breathe and evolve.

The elegant Whimbrel visited us over the weekend.
Like many other wading birds they are on the conservation red list due to the loss and degradation of wetlands. They pass through from Africa on their migration to their Scottish breeding grounds. These birds are a rare sighting and a cherished visitor.
We hope to see them on their return journey in the autumn on their way to winter in warmer climes.
We have our dedicated local bird watchers to thanks for these beautiful photos ✨

Aren’t we having the most magical spring? 💜
Bluebells carpet the woodlands across the estate. These wildflowers connect us in time. Thousands of years ago the forests would have looked the same as they do today, and will continue to look like this in generations to come. Woodlands are ancient and timeless, rooting us to the moment while connecting us to those that will stand here after us.

“Messy” isn’t neglect, it’s habitat 🌿
Fallen trees, long grass, muddy patches and tangled scrub might not look tidy, but to wildlife, it’s everything.
Rewilding means letting nature take the lead, even when it goes against the idea of what land should look like.
Because messy = life

It all begins with the land.
Not just how it looks, but how it’s cared for - over time, and with intention.
On Earth Day, it feels right to pause and recognise that everything we do here starts from that foundation.
From the beginning, the aim has been to create something that treads lightly. A place where celebration and responsibility can sit alongside each other.
Some of that is visible.
The Gillyflower, built using materials from the estate itself - rammed earth walls, timber from the woodland, and a living roof that supports pollinators and the wider ecosystem.
Parts of the land allowed to return to a more natural rhythm. Grasses growing longer, wildflowers finding their way back, and wildlife slowly returning.
And some of it sits more quietly in the background.
The house is heated using a biomass system powered by wood from the estate - a closed loop that keeps things moving without taking more than it gives.
Gardens and green waste are composted and returned to the soil. New woodland has been planted, not just for fuel, but to restore habitats and support biodiversity over time.
Plastic is reduced wherever possible. Systems are simplified. Things are reused, reconsidered, and, where they can be, done differently.
And then there’s the kitchen.
What’s grown here, or sourced nearby, finds its way onto the table. Menus shift with the seasons. The focus is always the same - food that is generous, nourishing, and rooted in where it comes from.
None of it is about doing one thing perfectly.
It’s about making a series of choices - small and large, that over time, lead to something better.
For the land. For the people who spend time here. And for the world we’re all part of.
That’s why it matters to us - today, and every day.

Bat Appreciation Day 🦇
Out on my first monitoring of the year and already picking up loads of pipistrelles. They are tiny bats with a huge role in keeping our ecosystems in balance.
The combination of being out in nature, watching and waiting…then the detector comes alive! I’m completely hooked.
Should we start running bat walks?

Did you know we have dog friendly treehouses? 🐾🌿
Adventure awaits for the whole family, four-legged members included! Come and unwind in the peace of the countryside, surrounded by nature and wide open skies.
Wander through our rewilding landscape, where wildlife is thriving and our herd of Longhorn cattle roam freely. It’s the perfect place to slow down, switch off, and reconnect with the wild. Just remember to explore respectfully and give nature the space it deserves.
Unfortunately, we had to draw the line somewhere… Brodie was not allowed in the outdoor bath (despite his very polite request), and he wasn’t too impressed with the dog wash either! 🤣🐶

We have an announcement ! An exciting announcement 📣 on this World Rewilding Day 🌱💚🌱….
We have been granted a license to release Beavers onto the landscape here @elmorewild and @elmore_estate 🦫
This is enormous news for us. It took a long while to get but we got there in the end. We think we will be a long way the largest Beaver enclosure in the UK and can’t wait to get to it.
Here is @anselmguise talking about it earlier today.
We had support and help from a whole load of people and particularly @derekjgow and the @beavertrust who worked on this with us and @naturalengland and we were introduced to by our friend @bengoldsmith . So much gratitude to you all 🙏❤️
Please watch this space and come and visit. There are a lot of beautiful and exciting things bubbling up here at Elmore.
There is an open day on Sunday, 29th March where you can come and talk to us. We’ve got a little stand talking about all of this stuff! Have a ganders @elmorecourt for more about that…
The introduction of these animals here will be extraordinary. Trust us! Happy Rewilding Day ✨
The lapwings are back this spring!
Intensive farming in recent decades has led to a significant decline in these ground-nesting birds, placing them on the conservation red list. But the rewilding land at Elmore Estate has become a safe haven. Following successful nesting last year, they appear to have returned in even greater numbers this spring.
The name “lapwing” is thought to refer to their distinctive zig-zag flight, performed by males during the breeding season. It’s a spectacular display, and one we’re lucky enough to witness daily over the scrapes.
Their flight isn’t their only striking feature. Both their calls and plumage are unmistakable. Their call has an oddly synthetic quality, unlike almost any other bird you’re likely to hear.
Visually, they are just as memorable: bold black and white plumage with an iridescent, oil-slick sheen across the wings, an elegant head crest, and a characteristic ‘M’ shape in flight.
With their dramatic aerial displays and unmistakable calls echoing across the wetlands, the return of the lapwings feels like a real marker of spring—and a hopeful sign that nature can recover when given the space to do so.
