10 years ago to this day a just turned 18 year old, with bright eyes and a loud mouth positioned SA’s in a scene for her first ever project, a horror feature. She didn’t know anyone in the industry, barely new the roles and responsibilities on set and probably thought a T Stop was an afternoon break for a cuppa. What she did have was big ideas, positive mindset and a bit of confidence to put herself in front of a ton of middle-aged (mainly blokes) and tell them what to do. Jokes. A decade later I’m pleased to see a lot more people like me do the same. More girlies and more diversity across the departments. Me personally, I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved, the people who I’ve done it with and the projects I’ve worked on. Enjoy some early on set pictures of me sporting a questionable fringe.

These two nutters are back again to captain the ship that is Leading Ladies. A community event for women in the Assistant Director department to come together to connect, learn a bit and gossip a lot. From meeting and working together during the that weird old time in Covid we found we were often the only ladies on set… so we wanted to make the very space we wish we’d had when we were given a walkie talkie and the expectation to lead a crew through the storm that is a film shoot. Since its inception two years ago we’ve had collectively over 200+ attendees, recommended jobs for each other and shared some WILD stories and it’s happening again next week. Tickets are available just Google “leading ladies Eventbrite” see u there xox

The last instalment of my behind the scenes adventures of our precious short film “hangovers aren’t real” currently sailing its way through post-production thanks to all the generous donations. This day was the last and the hardest, 11 scenes and the emotional crux of the film. Tears in the toilets mixed with the mechanics of the intimate scenes, many moving parts but the trust of the film army we had built. The incredible cast Indy, Raman and Ines giving absolutely everything they’ve got to make it special. Please support our film just google “hangovers aren’t real gofundme” ✨

A broken super8 camera, a shortage of pineapples on the island, the wheel falling off the expensive grip vehicle we’d got shipped over from another island, being told our beach permits hadn’t come through, a location getting cold feet and pulling out the night before the shoot orrrr it just fucking raining, on an island, that everyone says never rains… No matter how much you can plan, shit happens and my god have you got to learn how to roll with the punches, because one thing you know for sure, they’ll keep on coming. BTS captured from shoot day 3 in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on a little island called Fuerteventura. With smiles on our faces and film in the mag we made something we are truly proud of. We won’t talk about the super8 stuff…. 📸 by @katherineneedlesphotography

Most people only ever see the finished frame. The polished, colour graded, sound designed neatly packaged story. But this is what it actually looks like getting there. Day 2 of “hangovers aren’t real” Shooting on film, not just because it’s trendy or nostalgic but because in a world of automation and AI we need to anchor ourselves in something human. Films forces you to slow down, commit and trust your team. This was never just mine. It’s a shared vision, built by a crew that show up. Not just technically but emotionally invested in getting it right. If you believe in human made work and you’d like to support getting this film seen, search “hangovers aren’t real gofundme” Photos by @katherineneedlesphotography #hangoversarentreal

First day of school vibes, concentration high, new faces and tons of ideas all coming down to this moment. Make sure James turns the fridges back on, my mum doing cast taxi runs, do we think 20 locals are going to show up dressed in Christmas outfits? In January? Where’s the skeleton? The power keeps tripping in this 16th century beautiful pub! Who’s got the pregnancy bump? Have we got enough cobwebs? Remember the rehearsal yeah? We are obviously going to have to push lunch…. It’s only the main climax of the whole film, yeah let’s start with that. A glimpse behind the scenes of #hangoversarentreal shoot day one. BTS captured by @malayarhiann

Woops of joy on a wave, tears in the sand, laughs in a bar, whispers in a van, sad sunsets and stares at a wall. Sharing and seeing and being and trying and failing and more crying but growing and disconnecting in a way you’ve never felt more connected with yourself. When you’re feeling, you’re alive. The latest learning from a girl who’s spent a lot of time denying herself of emotions. Jokes on me I guess.
