Since this song is everywhere it was fun to see if I could still do a one take on it (with my lung capacity at practically 0 and baby Ellie wrote this 17 years ago) I remember after I wrote it with Jonny Latimer I emailed it (prob via hotmail) to @starsmith ! When he sent his version back it sounded like nothing Iād ever heard before (and Iād listened to a LOT because music was what I lived for) - and so was the beginning of my entire sound and the Lights era. thatās all I wanted for my first album, since I grew up on electronic music and only discovered folk and guitars in my teens. Iām glad it went that way round. When people ask me where my voice came from I can only think it was me wanting to be MJ, Dolores, Sarah Mclachan, Lauryn Hill , Leslie Feist, Eddie Vedder and Bjork at the same time so you can maybe start to understand why it sounds the way it does from years of trying to dissect those singersā¦ aaaanyway I remember back then @greg_james playing this on @bbcradio1 and the rest is bloody history š¤Ŗ enjoy š«
