Episode 1, Season 3 of Just Ride couldn’t have a better guest to start it all off @gregminnaar

I’ve known Greg for a long time! He was one of the first people I met when I started racing and has become a very very good friend of mine. It’s crazy to think how much he has done for DH racing and just how good he was (I could probably beat him now) I am so incredibly proud of what he has accomplished and I am super excited to watch as he puzzles on the other side of the tape :) Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

13. Red Bull Tennessee National. First round of the Pro Downhill Series. Helmet cam felt like a good idea at the time … glad I did that.
Bike’s been feeling really good lately. I’ve been riding the @shimanomtb SAINT brakes and it’s just solid. One of those setups where you don’t really think about it, which I guess is the whole point. Things just work and you can focus on not missing your line.
It was nice being back at the races again. Feels familiar in a good way. Little bit of chaos and lot of catching up with people I haven’t seen in a while.
Anyway. That’s the update. More soon (maybe).

07. Red Bull Cerro Abajo Valparaiso + Hiatus I went to Chile for the street race. It’s one of my favorite events of the year. There is this little cafe that I go to every day and chill and drink coffee and listen to podcasts at. This year, and last, were good for the soul. The breeze and pace and vibe just seem to hit just right at the perfect time in the perfect way. Commentary went crazy good. I think it was the best one I have ever done. Rob absolutely smashed it. There are always technical difficulties that are out of the teams hands but I am so so proud of everyone for working so hard and doing what they can. Christoph is truly the GOAT. I also love that we get to do these intricate pre shows. Rolli, Toby, Sonny and Georg are so fun to work with. We make really bad jokes that are funny to us, not sure if the audience likes them but who cares. Happy for Adrian riding so good. Filipe, your time will come ❤️ I really like doing these posts buuuut I’m gunna take the next month off. I’ll be back in time for the Tennessee National. You may even see me on a DH bike there ;). Thanks for following along!

06. Red Bull Hardline Tasmania. So the race was canceled. That was not ideal. You probably knew that already so I’ll talk about other things. I always think of my role in the commentary as the “director of attention.” Meaning, how do I take the whole screen and shrink it down to just the parts that matter. Giving you context for what you are seeing or will see. Pointing out the intention and purpose behind the actions. This year my goal is to trust myself a bit more. I sometimes have to remind myself that I did this at the highest level and I put in so much prep work for the show… so go for it! Say the thing that needs to be said! On that note, we did get a seeding commentary in, which is always very chill and fun, but even so, I felt like I did a really good job at that trust part. Little bits and pieces that I pointed out that I wouldn’t have before. It always helps that I have Rob guiding the audience masterfully through the show and it was so cool to see Jess do her first commentary. On to the next in Chile :) First race is always so nice to see friends. Hadn’t seen Luca in a bit and we got to watch the Super Bowl with a really good crew. The Red Bull team is just the best. I LOVE the people I work with. I snuck some kids into the VIP section (I told them to be cool and I turn around and they are taking selfies with the riders hahah) I am now a media squid. I took some photos of my fellow squids like Sven and TJ. Sven taught me some things. Smith Australia is sick. January was one of the best months I’ve had in a long time. First week of Feb didn’t let me down.

05. California -> Tasmania Last week in LA. Each week there was better than the last. It reminded me of how special something that you’ve seen a million times but are looking at through fresh eyes can be. All the road rides, little coffee shops, dinner spots, friends, activities, etc. all had a bit more sheen (yes friends can have sheen) than normal because I haven’t been back in so long. I made a conscious effort to do me. I need to do that more. I went to see more jazz. Larry Carlton is insane but also old. I went up to Santa Barbara to see Jarrett and am so proud of his new gym. I ended up riding up Gibraltar (just to no shooting sign 😭). I was slow. I exceeded Jarrett’s expectations but it think it was because they were below absolute zero. I’m workin on it. Leave me be. I made it to Tasmania a bit early and got to go to my favorite museum in the world. Its crazy. Built by a guy who made his money counting cards. Madison had less of a good time but I think she liked it in the end. Even if she sometimes kept her distance from the exhibits. First job of the year. Excited :)

04. This was a really sick week. This was one of those weeks where your life looks way way more exciting than it really is. (my pictures are B at best. so. whatever. just trust me.) - I’m a bloody machine on my road bike. (kinda) - Amity did a road ride from SF to Venice and told me to come party so I met up with them and saw Kate and Tobin and Sean and a bunch of my friends. - Jazz Clubs, comedy clubs, music, etc. My favorite picture is me with Alex and Dan. Dan worked on Paramore, Papa Roach and other platinum selling albums and Alex most recently did the Bad Omens record which went platinum. I met them in 2014 because I was a fan of music and Alex was a fan of MTB and there was a World Cup in Windham that year so I went to the studio in New York and he came to the World Cup. Alex snuck me into NAMM this year which is the biggest music trade show and I got to see so many crazy producers and musicians. I loved it. Funny to see how much I still remember from that world. If you didn’t know. I had a music studio for a bit and I thought that was what I was going to do with my life circa 2013. I got to interview Rich Roll at last years BLC and he said mood follows action. I did a lot good stuff. And my mood is good. I’ve cracked the code.

03. Whoever had over under at 2.5 posts has now lost. So unrelated to all of these pictures, my 10 mile road bike home loop is running amazing. Tried to convince Andrew and Molly to ride with me but they said no it’s too small 🥲. I went down to Laguna with Alex to meet up with the frameworks people. Jordi was supposed to be there but of course he left early to avoid me. It’s actually crazy that Neko has this American DH team that could win in both categories. Pretty proud of ol Rick. Anna almost looped out. Was so good to see Gas. Tanner took some good pics. I got roosted, etc. Two things. 1. The camera feels like it’s doing its job. I actually went back to get it to take photos. Can you believe it? 2. I used to spend soooo much time in Laguna!! Hanging out with Mikey and Cole and chance and cooper. The guitar riff was me trying to convince Cole that he should come out to that song for the supercross hahaha. Sometimes I feel like I’ve lived like 10 lifetimes.
