Mark your calendars! Open Inquiry: UC Arts exhibition opening reception is March 21st and brings together emerging artists from the University of California’s leading art programs at UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis. Featuring current students and graduates from the past two decades, the exhibition highlights innovative, research-driven practices across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and digital media. RSVP to reserve your spot for the opening night! /e/open-inquiry-uc-arts-opening-reception-tickets-1981523897318 We are excited to exhibit Eli’s wonderful pieces in 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐑𝐘: 𝐔𝐂 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒 Artist 𝐄𝐋𝐈 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐄 was raised in Santa Cruz, California and received his BFA from UC Berkeley. Thorne's work makes use of a personal vocabulary of symbols, overlaying mismatched childhood memories and landscapes with wild color and rough ornamental shape. Drawing simultaneously on histories of "outsider" and Folk art as well as his own identity as a trans man, his works are an experiment in self and world building: understanding the body as a landscape that too can be cultivated, constructed, and cared for. Thorne’s work is an invocation to explore the porous and messy boundaries between nature and self, an invitation to viewers to join him in finding their own sanctuary. @eli_thorne @sausalito_center_for_the_arts

Artist and surfer Eli Thorne’s imaginative paintings and sculptures often feature turbulent seas and potent symbology. Using his personal experience as a trans man, his work explores psychological and spiritual processes rich with sentiments of love, tenderness, death, energy, rage and power all at once. Eli’s work is currently available for viewing in a solo show called “Frankenstein’s Paradise” at @collarworks , curated by @emilynola , of which the pieces featured here are a part. He was also recently part of a group show called “Water Finds a Way,” at @utopiaupstate , which closed a few days ago.
