Hi everyone — sharing these beautiful shots by
@ironbark_photography from
@gettogethermusicfestival earlier this month.
It was a big one for me: debuting new material, playing guitar live (still new at that), and bringing some very special humans on stage — my partner Joel Hoffman, plus the incredible
@sabineitapia on bass and vocals and
@butternutsweetheart on drums, guitar, vocals and joy as usual. New band, new songs, new hair👩🏻🎤… dream gig. My kids, my parents, and so much of my community were there too.
If you’ve seen me perform live before, you might know I sometimes have anxiety attacks on stage. They can come with something called vasovagal syncope — basically a sudden drop in blood pressure that means I need to lie down briefly so I don’t pass out. It’s not fun, but it’s how my body works.
So yes… at one point I was lying on stage while my son Humphrey asked, “Mama, what are you doing?”
“Nothing sweetheart, just having a little rest. I’ll be up in a minute”.
I didn’t feel right posting these without acknowledging that. These photos are from the show, once we came back on and finished the set — and honestly, we had a ball. Thank you to the audience for sticking with us.
Hearing that
@joshpyke had a similar experience recently helped me feel a bit less alone, though I’ll admit I still feel a little vulnerable sharing this. But every time it happens, I’m reminded how kind and supportive people are — it often deepens the connection in the room.
We still played most of the set, and my band (and
@joel_b_h ) held me so beautifully. Joel even filled the gap with some stand-up and a perfect Irish reel.
I guess all I can say is: I’m human. I care deeply about live music, and I want my shows to feel safe — so please know I’m okay, I know how to manage it, and I always get back up.
Thanks for your patience. Sending love to anyone who needs it 🤍
