Today I finished MY FIRST-EVER-LYRICS — the first thing I’ve written since a long writer’s block. And it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible human beings from
@tvontheradio 🩷
After the concert I’d been waiting for nearly my whole life (22 years, I guess), they unexpectedly announced a party. I was too nervous and somehow I found courage to dance like it was my last time and to ask the things I had carried for years: about the creative process and hesitations.
My hands were shaking, but I tried to hold onto every word
@tadebimpe said: “Make art as much as you can. And do it for yourself.” And something inside me shifted. Something that still helps me to write every day after our meeting. No judging myself, no thinking about the audience and the art as the product.
Then
@jaleezy dropped an idea: “You do poetry? What if you tried songwriting? The world needs your voice.” And he gave me the kindest smile when I tried to explain that I knew nothing about it. That smile was the answer.
@luvandoverstanding held my hand as we spoke — a final blessing.
NOW: 2 notebooks filled, 1 song finished, a songwriting course started, and I’m back to playing piano. And I can say: TV on the Radio isn’t just my favorite band and endless inspiration. They are my mentors. I hope they’d be happy to know these conversations brought me back to writing — and gave me an extra superpower to support others & myself as well.
Those were the happiest days — full of life, dancing, art, honesty, and luck. I mean, how do you explain catching the setlist, meeting the heroes at a party, and hugging them at the airport?
Thank you for all you do. It’s hard work — I know. But the impact is beyond comparison 🫶🏽
