Auckland, March 22nd 2019 - Piha Beach is on the west coast of Auckland. It has black sand, because if its high iron content, which is volcanic in origin. It is spectacular and wild.
I lived in Auckland for 6 months in 2001/2 and did not go here once, which I regretted at the time. The drive is as great as you can imagine, and I thought it was a perfect place to shoot. I have always liked driftwood, and against the black sand it stood out. I was fortunate that Claire agreed to a shoot.
When visiting New Zealand, some quickly skip Auckland, but it is a lovely city, and this truly hit home on this trip. There is the stunning west coast, Mission Bay and Mount Eden, to name a few. Go if you can.
