From Paris to South Africa, African American culture has transcended borders. Soul music has become a foundation for not just us, but the world. Hearing it becomes evidence that the soul, and its signals, travel far ahead of us. The fragmented tiles suggest of culture that have been broken and resembled, constantly. They create structures of connection that move beyond spoken language that connects the living and the remembered.

To give love even when your legs won’t hold you. Narrative is often written out of stories, but it never disappears, it lingers, quietly present. Offering care as a kind of endurance, in spite of the rest of the world.

Very excited to announce showing with @cherrymountainarts opening next Friday, the 27th at 6pm. This body of work is very close to my heart. Can’t wait to show yall⭐️
You can’t mention DC without mentioning the Foamposite. As monuments in the District continue to be weaponized, I reflect on what monuments truly mean—especially as Washingtonians are pushed out of the city they built. This project is a memorial to DC culture, rooted in the idea of continuous rebirth.
Each panel of the shoe explores that idea, infused with ancestral and spiritual beings that live throughout my work. The design tells a story of life, death, and rebirth during a time of rapid transition.
One pair is dedicated to the unseen labor of the Black community. The other shows those same beings flying into action, ascending over what’s essentially a crucifixion—while honoring dance styles native to the DMV, like “beat ya feet.”
I’m thinking about the crack era through to the 2010s, and the dramatic transformation the city has undergone. The Foamposite represents the very essence of DC;its resilience, energy, and spirit.
I’m thinking about the ones who didn’t make it. In some neighborhoods, shoes hanging from telephone wires were the only memorial.
