Late rains have transformed parts of the landscape, bringing thick, lush vegetation that the elephants are making the most of 🌿 While the extra food is a welcome relief, it also makes monitoring far more challenging. Dense vegetation means visibility drops and tracking signs become harder to follow. At the moment, the collared bulls have temporarily moved away from the herd, so it’s back to traditional tracking methods and reading the landscape on foot. Thankfully, we have an incredible team of tracking experts who know these elephants and this terrain remarkably well. 📩 Ready to join the adventure and learn how to track elephants yourself? Contact us at [email protected] for more information.

Happy Birthday to Dr. Betsy Fox 🐘 Originally from the USA, Betsy has called Namibia home since 1990 and has dedicated much of her life to wildlife conservation. From living and working in Etosha National Park to serving as Conservation Scientist for the Kunene Region, her knowledge and experience have helped shape conservation in Namibia for decades. Betsy has been part of EHRA’s journey since the very beginning, and since retiring in 2018, she has continued supporting our work as a consultant and trusted friend. Thank you for your wisdom, guidance and unwavering support over the years. We wish you a wonderful birthday 🎂

“The only thing I can say is to do this project and experience everything yourself. Trust me, it’s worth it.” Our April volunteers showed up, got their hands dirty and became part of something real, from long days out in the field to evenings under the stars. And this is what they had to say afterwards. If you’ve been thinking about it, take this as your sign 🐘 Join us on the ground, learn, contribute, and see it for yourself. 👉 Email [email protected] to find out more

Allomothering is an important part of elephant life 🐘 It’s when young females help look after calves within the herd: staying close, guiding them and learning how to respond in different situations. These early experiences shape how they will one day care for their own calves. Little Joy is now stepping into that role with Fiori. Both no longer so little, but still the youngest in the Ugab West desert elephant herd. With no other calves currently surviving in this area, their presence matters. They represent the next generation. Learning, growing and carrying forward the knowledge that keeps elephant families strong.

Fundraising like this makes our work possible 🐘 He’s done it! 🏃‍♂️ Mark Edsell has successfully completed the London Marathon, taking on 42.2km in support of EHRA. Every donation raised goes directly towards our work on the ground, supporting coexistence between people and elephants. A huge thank you to Mark for taking on this challenge, and to everyone who has already supported his run. You can still be part of it and donate here: /page/mark-edsell?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=WA
