Less than two weeks until the launch of 𝕹𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙𝖜𝖆𝖑𝛋𝖊𝖗, a new collaboration between Darian Razdar & Eric Francisco 🖤Join us for its launch on Sunday September 7th from 4-6PM at Contact Photobook Lab (@contact_pbl / 80 Spadina Ave, Suite 205) 🌙 In their new artists’ book, the duo synthesizes their artistic practices — photography and poetry — into a hand-crafted artists’ book featuring coil binding, a custom-made slip case, and a randomized sequence in which each of the 50 copies is truly unique. Drawing inspiration from the surrealist landscapes of Brassaï and Louis Aragon, and the Dadaists’ aleatory manœuvres, the artists invite you into a nocturnal labyrinth of hypnagogic landscapes, phantasmagorias, and effervescent textures. Copies of 𝕹𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙𝖜𝖆𝖑𝛋𝖊𝖗 will be available to purchase at its launch & then online and at select stores! See you there 🦇🌃🖤

✨ Launching in Toronto at @zine___dream this weekend and on the east coast at @halifaxartbookfair next week! ✨

Co-published by @reflex.editions and @possibleworldsshop , INVOCATIONS is the culmination, in book form, of Eric Francisco’s artist talk and workshop Psychogeography as Re-Enchantment: Exploring Landscapes through Photography, Poetics, & Publishing, part of Possible Worlds’ Hypercolour Futures Summer School in Ottawa on July 17 and 24, 2025. It was designed and printed during his subsequent micro-residency at Possible Worlds.
Through experimental image–text activities synthesizing photography, landscapes, and automatic writing, participants drew on Filipino ancestral knowledge—Kapwa (“self in the other”), Pakikiramdam (“knowing through feeling”), and Pakapa-kapa (“feeling your way in the dark”)—as conduits for psychogeography, re-enchanting our relationship with the land and more-than-human kin.
Participants then employed “automatic editing”, a subconscious, intuitive sequencing method where a blind pick-a-number game determined the order of image–text pairs, allowing chance and feeling to guide the book’s narrative.
What emerged from this gathering is a collection of poetic dialogues between landscape photography and text, creating dreamlike juxtapositions that transform, disorient, and deepen our aesthetic and emotional engagement with place.
Drop by our respective tables at Zine Dream and Halifax Art Book Fair to pick up your copy. Scenes from our first session of Hypercolour Futures experimental publishing summer school Session 01: Psychogeography as Reenchantment with @reflex.editions . // Inspired by psychogeography, ancestral knowledge and historical and contempary art movements, artist-publisher @efrncsco_ discussed his practice and led participants through an exploration of how artist’s books can function as re-imagined landscapes. The results of an experimental image-text writing activity formed the contents of a collective publication created in less than one week, designed by Eric during his invited micro-residency at Possible Worlds. Participants learned simple binding techniques and took copies home. // Big thanks to the 11 participants including @cellliiinee @allegra_conty @bethshepherd_artist @dabeegee @leahamilton29 @hazelmayeckert @olijohn @melanie.yugo who generously shared their images and written work and contributed to the publication. // Details of the launch of the publication, Invocations, co-published by Possible Worlds and Reflex Editions, to be announced shortly!

RFLX011 - The Art of Climbing a (Non-Existent) Mountain
By Eric Francisco  @efrncsco_
In The Art of Climbing a (Non-Existent) Mountain, artist Eric Francisco reimagines a climbing expedition on a mountain in its absence, a long-gone landscape that now exists solely through perception.
Combining photographs from a fateful encounter with a mysterious mountain during a neighborhood stroll, along with re-routed excerpts from René Daumal’s allegorical mountaineering adventure novel Mount Analogue, Francisco embraces the mystery inherent in objective chance—synthesizing photography with situationist concepts such as psychogeography and détournement to create a new (un)reality.
The result is an artist’s book that provokes disorientation and uncertainty, inviting you to unravel layers of aesthetic and metaphorical possibilities on the journey to our symbolic summits.

*Copies will be available at the Contact Photobook Lab Summer Pop-Up (@contact_pbl ) this weekend, August 10-11, at Burdock Brewery Kensington and @zine___dream on August 17th at Parkdale Hall. They will also be available for purchase on our webshop afterward.*
