✨ THE ECHO CARRIED: RESONANCE ✨ by @dmckoyy for @mckoydanceproject ▫️ Costumes by @edjohnst ▫️Presented at @harlemstage as part of the WaterWorks x @alvinailey Fellowship Program 2025/2026 Season ▫️ . This project was a really special one. For as long as I've known Derick, I've been exceedingly impressed with his vision to create worlds within his work. He and his tremendous company of artists transformed the Harlem Stage venue into a glittering ballroom of vice in the Red Section of this premiere. When we discussed concepts for the designs last year, he mentioned that each character embodied certain sins or traits- I did my best to use these traits as a foundation of their designs. For Greed, a suit jacket (corporate); for Attachment, a cape to cling to; for Self-Pleasure, glittering gold in places to touch; for Lust, a sparkling belt begging to be ripped away, and pants that spread apart seemingly of their own accord; for Rage, larger-than-life shoulders evoking a puffed-up lizard; for Disgust, "vomit" down her front; for Pride, a nod to the ballet world; and for Envy, a "chip on her shoulder". Watching this company grow through the years has also meant watching myself grow as a designer, and I am so very grateful to Derick for bringing me into his worlds and trusting me to help bring them to life. ❤️✨
