We’re excited to announce the first in a series of exclusive album listening sessions, in partnership with immersive experience innovators Polygon Portal. 25 May, Soho, London - Donny McCaslin and Richard Spaven, plus Q&A with the artists and Dave Stapleton. The first event brings together two powerful albums from two visionary artists, played back-to-back. Donny McCaslin’s bold and visceral Lullaby for the Lost and the premiere of Light of Day, Richard Spaven’s genre-defying rhythmic masterpiece—his first release as bandleader on Edition Records. The sessions will close with a live Q&A with the artists in the room. At Polygon Portal, albums are played back in full, the way they were meant to be felt, reimagined on one of the world’s best spatial audio systems. The music is reshaped to move around you, above you, and through you. Polygon Portal is hosted in a secret Soho bar and cinema room with a beautiful L-Acoustic 17.1.10 sound system—17 powerful surround speakers, 10 speakers overhead supported by more subs, and 1 sub channel feeding four subs at the front of the room. 🎶 ALBUM OF THE WEEK – THE CHOSEN ONE 🎶 Chris Potter @chrispotterjazz – Alive With Ghosts Today (@editionrecords ) “I wrote this album around the story of John Brown – an abolitionist in the mid 1800s and an almost mythical American figure, whose audacious takeover of the armoury at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, was one of the immediate factors that tipped the country into Civil War. It’s a story that holds the complexity and tragedy of America in one moment, and it felt important to engage with it now. Musically, I didn’t want a big band or an orchestra – I wanted something in between, almost like a slightly unruly village band, working with what they have available: guitar, violin, clarinet, trombone, rhythm section. I was imagining a certain sound: Copland, Blues and gospel and African rhythm all living in the same space. I was thinking about Bill Frisell’s sound as I wrote, knowing Nate would anchor it and that each of these musicians would bring their own interpretation and personality to it. It started as a bit of a hope and a prayer, but when everyone leaned in with seriousness and focus, it felt to me like the music took on a life of its own and became larger than any one of us.” — Chris Potter Alive With Ghosts Today brings together an extraordinary cast featuring Bill Frisell, Nate Smith, and Burniss Travis, alongside Rane Moore (clarinet), Zekkereya El-Magharbel (trombone), and Sara Caswell (violin). ✨ This is our Chosen One. 🎧 Listen & buy: chrispotterjazz.bandcamp.com/album/alive-with-ghosts-today #AlbumOfTheWeek #TheChosenOne #ChrisPotter #EditionRecords #OneJazz NewJazz
