Hi, Instagram. It's me, Hannah Lowery, photographed in my first studio space (the tiny front bedroom of a townhouse) by the folk art queen herself @justlikehoney.us , who showed up for this session in her 1989 Bronco with a box full of preserved butterflies on the red velvet front passenger seat. A portent of things to come, as I've been shoehorning lepidoptera into design work ever since.
I started Edges Wild Studio in 2017 after moving to Houston with my partner Caleb, who wholeheartedly supported my dream of going rogue and making my living creatively. He's always had my back.
Since then, I've found such a happy home in the incredibly open-source, generous, scrappy, fierce, hardworking and kind Houston floral community (and to a degree in the worldwide florist community; you'd be shocked how tight-knit it is), and continue to connect with the coolest clients and loveliest people, often working with folks on an other-than-weddings basis; if not just becoming friends.
So whether we've met in the Gulf Coast or elsewhere, welcome to the studio's online home. It's an honor to nerd out together about botanicals here, and to make YOUR floral dreams come true, whether in real life or just digitally. I'm here to surprise and delight. The first bouquet I ever made for a client. Honestly beginner's luck that it turned out so well and that it's still one of my favorites. My nature-adoring bride Cody and I took a risk together on it, as magnolia flowers were important to her, but they brown quickly as a cut flower, and it's a gamble on how they'll do out of water.
I cut these out of the tree in my backyard the morning of the event and made the bouquet just before I left to deliver the wedding, and we still had some fading, but in the most poetic way, and we honestly both loved that. Letting nature do her thing, and respecting the outcome.

Still one of my favorites of all time, this styled editorial shoot remains a great example of what I mean by "folk art floristry," the tagline of my business.
The concept and the colorway was all Natalie of @twobewed 's idea; she had seen one specific 1970s-era paint-by-number landscape with an amber sun hanging low in a pink and purple sky over some deep green trees. We took that painterly direction and ran with it, crafting the whole floral collection to look a bit brush-stroked and sunset-esque.
Using special tokens from your own library of aesthetic inspirations--your or your family's folklore, if you will--and weaving them into your wedding work is what I'm all about. Hand-crafting a collection with love and care, and perhaps a dash of quirk or whimsy.
Speaking of hand-crafting with love and care, our model groom (Ramon Smothers, owner and head designer at Legacy Lapels) made the suit he's wearing in this shot. And have you ever seen wardeobe so beautiful? The shade of green was almost exactly the same as the original painting touchstone, and it worked perfectly in context, especially in the rich-toned bar room at Carr Mansion. I've never forgotten it.
