VYSYM A work that has been living with me for a while. It first appeared as a show performance at my @fus.show in 2024, Lisbon - but I always felt there was something more inside it, something that needed a different form. This is its second life. Reimagined as a film. Brought back to where I’m from - Latvia. A special thank you to @edgars.k - I was drawn to his unique visual language, and this piece would not exist in the same way without his skill, effort and talent. It’s about being unsure, in the beginning of a connection, especially a queer one, but then exploring it and getting more and more comfortable with it. Also with time overcoming obstacles, that a queer couple would face on daily basis. It’s about trusting the process to guide us on the right path and listening to each other. Like in dance. When we hear the music and trust our body, it will guide us where it feels right. And because this beautiful video happened to come out on valentine’s day, always remember - loving someone is never a waste. Thank you to @edgars.k for the trust in me and making my visions come to life. He is always my number one person that I run to with my ideas, because I know, I will always get the result I desire. Strangers in the Forrest | Narrative short (2023) | 18' Two strangers are travelling to see a mutual acquaintance. However, after choosing a shortcut through the woods, they gain experiences, which change their views on nature and leave a lasting impression. The film is based on true events and examines the dynamics of a strangers’ relationship, interaction with and the portrayal of nature, seeking to find answers to the question - do strangers know each other better than they know the forest? In crafting this film, the director decided to collaborate with non-professional actors employing different method acting techniques. Consequently, in order to have maximum adaptability to the actors' performances we opted to shoot predominantly in natural light and with a compact camera package, mostly handheld. Shot on Sony FX6 and FX3 on Canon Sumire glass. Day of the Sun (2022) | Documentary A poetic short film exploring free will and humanity through the people of Riga, also serving as portrait of the time. 12 - Diona | Music video For this one, me and @helmutsbondars decided to go guerilla style, inspired by the French new wave and the film "Frances Ha" (2012). We shot with minimal lighting to stay spontaneous and on the move, as well as with some tight time constraints, because most street lights were going to be turned off at 3 AM. However we added a bit of glam with the studio setup.
