We had an impromptu playback of some of the noise experiments the youngest member of the group had been cooking up, played through a set of speakers made by the eldest. Good times!

The Smart Contact Mic Porta Kit puts the programmable piezo preamp into a study 3d printed case and breaks out the string connectors of the diy version to minimal connectors, and makes the device battery powered via a standard 9v battery.
More demos of this soon but really this is made for bringing the scm into the world and not worrying about breaking anything. The piezo is coated in epoxy for waterproof operation and the integral magnet allows for easy connection to metal objects, perfect for field recording resonant surfaces.

Testing out the new Soniphorm exciters that go with the Smart Contact Mic in a straight up feedback battle. The volume is bring shaped by an envelope which is being triggered by a sequencer, and the lot is filtered through a low pass to take the screech off it a little. All happens in software on the Smart Contact Mic.

In all my product development the last many months I haven't touched the eurorack or zither other than to quickly test stuff. I have it set up in my studio now instead of the little stone building beside my house, and have space in front of me, which I had forgotten the importance of. That's probably related to being accustomed to venue/audience space when playing live, but for simply playing, it imbues another dimension missing when facing a wall.
Would be nice to do a little gig in the studio with this set up!

Using the Porta Sampler module (a nod to the Tascam Porta Studio that was my first multi track recorder as a teenager) in the Soniphorm Patcher with the Smart Contact Mic you can very quickly record the vibrating world around you and make beats and patterns with the Step Sequencer. Also demonstrated is using the piezo as a trigger, so tapping it can drive other processes, in this case iterating the sequencer step by step with each tap.
