Balancing Division I tennis and a full economics degree? Arina Garmetkaia (@gamretkaia.a ) made it look easy.
Arina came to VT two years ago from and says Blacksburg quickly became one of her two hometowns. As a member of VT Women's Tennis, she learned firsthand that being a #StudentAthlete means treating both roles with equal effort. It also helps to lean on friends and teammates to get through it together.
After graduation she's chasing a professional tennis career, with a master's degree on her radar for the future.
To any athlete wondering if economics fits your schedule: Arina says go talk to your professors. "The Department of Economics loves athletes; they are very fun."

Please allow us to introduce Dr. Jonathan Gendron. Jonathan successfully defended his PhD dissertation earlier this week, which focuses on making meta anayses more accurate and trustworthy.
This fall he's joining Xavier University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.
We're so proud of you, Jonathan!
