Are Friday introductions still a thing?
Hi, I am Heather! I am creator of @eclecticsage but am rarely in front of the camera. I am terribly inconsistent in what and when I share on here and go through waves of trying to share more. I am proud of the fun work we create and you all deserve to see more of it.
A few things about me:
- I am a mother to a wild and incredibly smart three year old who keeps me on my toes daily.
- I love seeing live music and my favorite performer is @brandicarlile and really anyone she associates with. I am a #Bramily fan club member and will happily discuss my fandom anytime or force you to listen repeatedly if you are in the studio with me.
- I was a child clown and somehow managed to get my entire family into it. I did the same thing with glassblowing for my brother, except he kept up with it.
- I thrive when creating and enjoy all sorts of artistic mediums in addition to flowers.
- I started Eclectic Sage officially in 2013 after a career in commercial interior design.
- I have a thing for chairs, I have quite the collection. I blame @patrickleelucas

It’s #artinbloom season @ncartmuseum and I am reflecting on all the work we have done for it through the years. I still remember the first year and it just keeps improving. After winning 5 ribbons through the years, I took a break this year to focus on new adventures. I still couldn’t stay away and got to help my friend Morgan @westqueenstudio install her piece. The energy of being surrounded by other designers that share your passion is infectious. And the joy of watching museum patrons experience your art is so meaningful. Oh the day we’ve been waiting for! Adam + Maggie are officially marriedddd!! As expected, so much beauty, heart, and intentionality was woven throughout their wedding.
Maggie’s grandmother’s rosary wrapped around her bouquet, her beloved onyx ring from college that each of her bridesmaids also wore, @eclecticsage knocking the florals out of the park, a surprise father/daughter dance to incorporate Maggie’s years of dancing — including many dance friends from the crowd, a lovely brother-in-law + sister dancing around the bride and groom in a circle, and Adam’s family’s Volkswagen Karmann Ghia to send them off into their newlywed days!
It was beautiful, authentic, gentle, and all things lovely. Thank you for having me, A+M 🤍🤍

Last night was a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do. I’m so grateful to have received the NACE awards for Best Florals and Best Bouquet. To win Best Florals two years in a row is a dream come true.

Being an artist means I’m always telling a story, sometimes softly, sometimes boldly, but always with intention.
As a journalist by training and at heart, I let whoever is in front of my camera inspire me and the light lead me. I use light, natural from windows or from my flash, to sculpt emotion, to highlight movement, to let my couple/model/friend feel alive rather than posed.
These images were created by leaning into the mood and vibe of brightness and shadow, film and digital, elegance and edge. Not just documenting beauty, but creating a cinematic and editorial image you can feel.

This week I sat down for coffee with the talented friend who photographed this moment. We ordered our cozy hot drinks and I melted into snuggles with the new little human she brought into this world. My phone sat on the table beside me, buzzing with business notifications. Yet the morning disappeared in a blink.
Three hours passed like three minutes. And it struck me: this is what good company feels like. It softens the edges of time. It reminds you that life is meant to be lived and leaned into. Where moments feel so full and sweet that you don’t even notice them passing by. The times you wish you could press pause, and be here, while the world stands still and you’re surrounded by people that make “I Love You” feel involuntary.
That’s what happens when good company is paired with the perfect environment. And that’s what we’re grounded in at SE. You have good company. We create a space that makes you want to press pause, and savor this moment forever.

My favorite part of deep-diving into the Wicked movie’s design process is hearing where the creative inspiration truly comes from. I was recently listening to an interview with @paultazewell about their stunning costumes and was happily surprised to hear that the underside of mushrooms inspired Elphaba’s hat and dress! 🍄
Why? Because I was intuitively drawn to that exact element when creating my own Elphaba design! I love that connection. It feels like Elphaba’s spirit guided the vision. (swipe to see how I hydro-dipped mine)
My design focuses on her connection to nature, using elements like poppy pods, broom corn and assorted grasses, and fantail willow. 🍃
What design element are you most excited to see brought to life in the movie?

Consider this your official warning: My floral studio has been taken over by paper mache! 🤣 After presenting on sustainable displays using studio scraps at the State Floral Convention this summer, I’ve become completely enamored.
