Hi Guelph! I'm excited to start offering acupuncture at the @queer.health.hub :) A bit about me: I'm Gunjan (all/no pronouns). I've been offering community centered care as a registered acupuncturist in Toronto since 2016. I have advanced training in supporting folks through psycho-emotional conditions, pregnancy, fertility, gender affirming care, and I bring my background in politicized somatics and community organizing to providing trauma informed care. I especially love supporting folks who don't typically see themselves in 'wellness' spaces - working class, BIPOC, disabled, neurodivergent, queer and trans folks. Feel free to ask about sliding scale spots. I primarily practice a methodology called the Balance Method/System, from the lineage of Richard Tan through Sifu Sonia Tan, which is a style of acupuncture that is known for the immediacy of its results and effectiveness over the long term. I am a Level 9 practitioner of this method. I also incorporate cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na (Chinese meridian massage), and bodywork as appropriate. So what is acupuncture good for? In my clinic, I treat everything from chronic pain, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, anxiety, burnout, depression, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, repetitive motion injuries, muscle strains and sprains, post-concussive syndrome, stress, grief, CPTSD, and more. I am a queer AuDHD punjabi immigrant-settler, & survivor, and I believe in the power and necessity of healing in collective struggle. You can read more about me at my website: echoacupuncture.ca Book an appointment at echo.noterro.com Hope to meet you soon!

Ah these terrible-beautiful days. I have been thinking we need better language to describe the current moment we live in. Some new portmanteaus to describe both the gloriousness of long-awaited summer heat, and the lurking realities of what portends to be another record-breakingly hot summer. (Maybe all the records are broken / maybe broken records are the ones to listen to.) Against the backdrop of continuing genocide, of escalating state terror, of fascists moving fast and breaking things… where does an acupuncture practice fit in? Where does healing fit in? How much joy are you allowed on a burning planet? In whatever proportions we are consciously aware of the rising calamities and also the enduring resistance of life; the precious sweetness of our smallness as well as the pains of our interwoven lives; this medicine is well suited to hold the simultaneity of experience. If your heart both breaks and beats with hope, we may be a good match to work together. Here are some stories from the clinic lately (anonymized and recompiled): - a flare-up of shoulder tendonitis with severe pain and limited range of motion, set off by a very well-intentioned commitment to building physical strength. The pain resolved and the range of motion returned with 6 weeks of regular treatments, with some bonus side effects of less emotional reactivity and more attunement to going slow and tending to recovery. - PMDD with strong emotional lability, a “rage day” 10 days before the period, chest soreness, hopelessness, paranoia, and reactivity for much of the month - the mood fluctuations levelling off with weekly treatments, the soreness gone, and a bonus of digestion becoming smoother as well. - an emotional block and sensation of stuckness in the chest after months of snowballing personal and community crises - lifted after one treatment, with insights and clarity flooding in.  If this medicine can help you get grounded, gather strength, relish a moment of pause, free up some flow, allow you some relief, I would be honoured to help. Come see me at 3 Munro Street (Broadview / Queen) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays. Wanna chat first? Book a 15 min call. Link in bio. ✨✨✨

Fuck Wellness. I Want Aliveness. one of the things that has happened as a consequence of coming to terms with my autism over the last couple years is that I can barely mask anymore. (I mean autistic masking, not face masks!) I am still negotiating how to handle this in public spaces, especially places with real risks (i.e. here). and still, I really need to be as clear as I can be about some things. I am not interested in a Wellness industry that pacifies, soothes, zombifies, and sets us on the quest for perpetual self optimization, co-opting spiritual language for the aims of neoliberal capitalism, telling us our only locus of control is our individual selves that we must keep improving ad infinitum. I am not interested in participating in the Instagramification of healing and of politics, flattening nuance and complexity into 2 dimensional pastel carousels, relegating discussion to comment sections that are structurally designed with the same aims of neutering potential, and calling all of this discourse and education. I am not interested in pretending there is a state of 'wellness' that can be achieved in a deeply unwell society that isn't some form of mass dissociation. I am not interested in telling people to 'regulate' away their grief, their rage, their rightful deeply feeling selves because they are inconvenient to bosses, landlords, and cops (self-appointed, well-meaning or otherwise). and I am Definitely not interested in accessing Aliveness, that source power, creative impulse, life force, and trying to wrangle it to fit the same neoliberal capitalist aims of productivity, of symbolic dissent, of individual gratification over the collective's. Aliveness is an opportunity - to help build a more Alive world, at least one that is not this current death cult. this is where many lose the plot. I do not believe individual transformation necessarily begets collective transformation. this is where studying history and analyzing our current conditions become necessary. call it dialectics, m(arxism), or the interbecoming of yin and yang - I believe in facing reality. That requires being alive to the world, and building the skills to do so.

// ABOUT ME // I thought I would reintroduce myself and my practice since it's been a while. :) Hi I'm Gunjan (all/no pronouns). I have been a registered acupuncturist since 2016. I took a break from my practice over the last two years to focus on my own healing and explore other passions, and I am returning with more of myself. During this time I made a commitment to not use acupuncture on anyone else. This has been a great exercise in prioritizing my healing after years of burnout. And still, sometimes I'll stress and fuss and do almost anything else before deciding to give myself a treatment. And when I do - time after time, I am in awe of the medicine and the elegant simplicity with which it eases even the most complex knots of my body-mind-spirit. I am excited to share this medicine with you again. I am in love with acupuncture because sometimes I don't want to talk, I want to tune in. Sometimes things don't need explaining or cannot be explained, but there are a myriad ways the needles can meet what needs to be met, and shift what is ready to change. I came to this medicine from my own need, at a time when nothing else was accessible or effective. I came to this medicine as refuge, and I return to it as refuge. I had no idea I did not need to tolerate pain and dis-ease, that some things could get better instead of worse. I have been doggedly spreading the message ever since. I practiced at community acupuncture clinics across Toronto from 2016 to 2019, and then started a private practice. In 2020, I was certified as a Level 9 Balance Method Acupuncturist. This methodology is ridiculously effective for so many things. Most of my practice has been focused on chronic and acute pain, digestive issues, menstrual issues, migraines, and mental health. My practice is informed by my views as a leftist. I believe in the power and necessity of collective struggle. I am a queer AuDHD punjabi immigrant-settler, & survivor, and I take seriously the importance of trauma-informed care for the communities I belong to and am in solidarity with. Currently I practice Mondays (9a to 12p) and Fridays (5:30p to 8:30p) @tocacu . <3.
