Drop-In Qigong on Friday mornings starts April 10th 10-11am, at ToCA Taught by ToCA acupunk Jonathan Adjemian These classes are a chance to work on your health and personal goals, through group exercises and individualized practices with one-on-one instruction. If you’re also receiving acupuncture, we’ll connect qigong and acupuncture and explain the theory in play. These classes are also a great way to deepen your knowledge of qigong fundamentals and learn what your body and mind respond best to. This initial offering will run for nine Fridays in April and May. DM or email to sign up, or just show up (knock loudly!). $20 a session; or all nine for $160. #qigong #torontoqigong #torontoacupuncture #dropinqigong #TCM

“Gazing at the moon” — a qigong practice to open the “windows to the sky”, the points governing passage between the head and the rest of the body. This simple practice is calming, refreshing, and with regular practice can help with headaches, neck issues, dizziness, and so on. Qigong exercises are a great way for you to participate actively in your treatment! Jonathan offers brief private coaching sessions as well as classes — reach out to find out more! #qigong #acupuncture #communityacupunture

Shaking qigong - this is a great practice on its own or as a warmup before other movements. It’s a good way to loosen areas of stagnation throughout the body, to open up the breath, and to bring your mind into your practice. If you’re interested in going deeper into qigong, I’m offering a 4-week class on Fundamentals of Qigong at ToCA in October 2025, on Friday mornings (10th, 17th, 24th, and 31th) from 9:30-11am. You can also attend online via Zoom, by joining live or accessing the class recording. $80 for the series, or $25 / class. #qigong #torontoqigong

Here’s a simple qigong practice to balance the active and calming energies in your body and address imbalances between upper and lower. It’s called (among other names) “old man strokes his beard,” and it’s easy to learn and practice. It can be helpful for patterns of anxiety and insomnia, particularly when accompanied by tension in the chest or irregular body temperature, but it will be beneficial for anybody. Try doing it for five minutes at a time in the evening (or whatever time works for you). As with any qigong practice, we want to be paying attention to the “three adjustments” — adjusting your body, meaning your body is stable, balanced, and relaxed; adjusting your breath, meaning it is deep, soft, smooth, and even; and adjusting your mind, letting your focus be absorbed in your practice and letting distractions go as they arise. Comment if you have questions, or if you’d like to share your experience with the practice! If you’d like to explore these kinds of practices more, I’m running a four-week “Fundamentals of Qigong” at ToCA in October — see our posts for details, or DM or email for more info or to register.

The class runs 9:30-11, Friday mornings from Oct 10 to 31. Participate in person at ToCA, or online via Zoom. Spring Qigong at ToCA! (or via Zoom - live or recording) Join Jonathan on Friday mornings, 10:00-11:15am, for a qigong movement class. The class runs for 8 sessions, March 21 to May 9. We’ll learn the Ba Duan Jin (“Eight-Set Silk Brocade”), a well-known classic qigong form to open the joints, stretch the sinews, and circulate qi throughout the body’s channel. Along with this, we’ll be exploring the channel system through movement and self-massage, and supplementing this yang activities with some Zhan Zhuang (“standing post”) or standing meditation. Each session will build on the last, but you’re welcome to attend as many or as few as you like. Classes are pay what you can, suggested $20/class. Hope to see you there!

Qigong - lit. working with or skill with qi - refers to exercises that use gentle movement and breathwork to balance the body physically, energetically, and mentally/spiritually. Under different names (Dao yin - “guiding and stretching”; Nei gong - “inner work”; and many others), these exercises have been part of Chinese Medicine from early times. You can do qigong in a class setting — Jonathan will be offering a Friday class at ToCA (with an online option) starting in late March — or on your own. Particular exercises can be prescribed to help support your acupuncture treatments and overall healing goals. Stay tuned for class announcements; or book an online consultation today to get an individualized routine to practice on your own.
