A huge thank you to our judges, performers, and everyone who came to support the event!
Happy World Book Day, Warriors! The right book at the right time can change everything. Take a look at the all-time favorite reads of two El Camino English professors!
Professor Brenes (English C1001 & English 46):
“My favorite books are Catcher in the Rye, simply because it’s the novel that made me want to be an English Teacher and seeing Holden’s angst as a young reader made me feel less alone; Normal People by Sally Rooney because of her incredibly romantic and palpable way of describing relationships; and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov because it’s a deeply challenging and demanding read that offers me something different each time I revisit it.”
Professor Wright (Humanities 1, English C1000H, English C1001H):
“My all-time favorite book, the one that will forever top my list of ‘Favorite Books,’ is The Golden Gate by Vikram Seth. I am a firm believer that there is a right book for the right person and the right time, and this is that book for me. I read it when I transferred from CSULB to SFSU, and it changed my whole life. It’s a novel in sonnet form, but a contemporary story following a group of friends in San Francisco. It made me fall in love with San Francisco, poetry, and life itself. The rest of my ‘Favorite Books’ list constantly evolves, but I would say Gone to Soldiers by Marge Piercy and Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood are comfortably #2 and #3.”
