Today’s speaker, alumnus and remarkable muralist @ross.macrae.art brought a vibrant burst of colour to the studio. He emphasised the sketchbook as “one of the most important places” for an artist, encouraging us to draw without intent and let our imaginations roam freely. Ross also highlighted the value of collaboration, showing how much we can learn from working with others. Thank you, Ross, for introducing us to your stunning, otherworldly artwork and for sharing your mural painting expertise with us, including bringing that heavy bag of paints, spray cans and all sorts of other materials for a show & tell afterwards!

The Educators Meet-Up, part of BOOKMARKS at ECA yesterday. An annual informal ‘Symposium’ where colleagues from across Scottish Institutions get together to have a natter and share how we use the book form in our various teaching practices.

Last week’s visiting speaker, the fabulous @stephenfowler_rubberstamper brought some joy to our day, introducing us to his low-tech, or as he calls it, „rubbish“ printmaking techniques. We were reminded of how little it takes to become creative with printmaking and how playing can help to overcome feeling intimidated by „proper“ historic printmaking techniques. Brilliant workshop afterwards too, thanks Stephen!
One of the best bits of BOOKMARKS is getting the whole college together and giving students and staff the chance to mix and see what they have each been working on.

With just over a week to go until Bookmarks, we’ll be sharing lots of highlights over the next few takes.
This year we have invited back 4 groups of Alumni to show work. Marc Gosteli graduated from Illustration in 2022, Sophie Demery also graduated from Illustration in 2018. Both regularly show and sell work at professional fairs and exhibitions.
Louisa Taylor, Mollie MacGregor and Emily Lucas work together as Three Pointed Star. You might remember their big blue castle from last year… They have just graduated from Illustration.
Jo Shulha, Thomas Arnold and Ella Williams also return after graduating from Fine Art.
