@officialtlc were the definition of young 90’s it girls. In 1992 this single, “Baby-Baby-Baby,” produced by @la_reid @babyface & @darylsimmonsentertainment , pulled them out of just being in the hip-hop category and crossed them over, hitting number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Julian Lennon, son of the Beatles legend John Lennon, burst onto the music scene with his debut hit “Too Late For Goodbyes.” This song’s infectious melody and catchy hook have stayed with me ever since I was a kid. What other songs do you like from this legendary songwriter? Follow me on TikTok @djebjohnz #80smusic #rock #soul #vinylrecords #recordcollection

@cyndilauper is the Pop-Princess of the 80’s. You can't even think about the 80’s without remembering the white girl with the weird talking voice, punk rock style but a tender singing voice displayed on her number 1 chart-topping hit song “Time After Time. ” Lauper had a big run with other hits such as “Good Enough” and the worldwide smash “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” What's your favorite Cyndi Lauper song? 20 years ago, in 2006, I had the opportunity to appear in the CSI episode “Popping Tags,” playing a Street Team kid caught in the middle of a rap beef — which, at the time, was basically my real life. I was working at Interscope Records and promoting G-Unit, so stepping into that role felt very natural. While working on the set, Dustin Lee Abraham (@dustinleeabraham ) invited me into the role. Dustin was not only cool but super connected and really was a visionary as a writer and director. He knew all the hip-hop music and we sat in his car and jammed a couple of times. Being on that set was incredible — not only getting to work with the legendary CSI crew, but also reconnecting with and meeting so many rising stars like @michaelbjordan , @khleothomas , and Charlie Duckworth (@JusCharlie ). On set, I got to witness their talent up close and even talk with them. I already knew MethodMan and Travis Barker and Baby Chris (RIP) from my younger years when I was an intern, but since I was working at Interscope at the time, Dustin and I were also able to place music we were promoting into the show — including Obie Trice ft. @akon and @mobbdeepqb . The episode itself was inspired by Jay-Z’s song “Poppin’ Tags,” which is funny because this was before I eventually worked at Roc Nation. Over the years I’ve run into Michael at events and sometimes at the office when he’d come by to see Jay and Lenny S @kodaklens . He’s always been a solid guy since the first time we met at an audition for The Wire. It’s been amazing watching his career grow, and I definitely teared up a few times this awards season watching him win. Seeing Dustin post the photos last night made me realize it’s really been 20 years. I’m grateful for the opportunity you gave me, my brother. Thank you Dustin, Adam Favors @lucky_13a , and Nino Cuccinello for sending me to the set that day, and Adam for always encouraging me to show my talent — you’re still telling me that to this day. Amazing to see how far everyone has come in 20 years. Happy 20th Anniversary!!! Congrats again to the Legend #MichaelBJordan!!! 🙏🏾❤️🙌🏾🏆 #CSI #2006

@kidcudi I saw your post and it brought me back to 2008/2009. I'm with you my brother!!! In 2009, we got a call from your manager Plain Pat and Hof from OnSmash. I think Kanye—or someone—gave them my number. They told me about you and a record called “Day N Nite” that was already picking up momentum on @myspace . I checked Cudi’s page and the backend data—numbers were moving. We immediately thought, we need to hit them back about a feature. That same night I went out to see @djreflex spin at a club. He played “Day N Nite” and the crowd literally went crazy. Reflex told me, “In a few months this will be the biggest song in the country—and Cudi’s down with GOOD Music.” @djvice @clintonsparks and a few others Dj's also confirmed this with me. The next morning I told @roslynnc (RIP) we had to run the feature ASAP. @amarsyal handled the graphics, and we scheduled it to air right after SXSW. At SXSW, Cudi was walking down the street and everyone wanted to meet him. We did an interview, hung out—he was already a star. That night @atrak threw a huge house party and Cudi performed and completely killed it. @roslynnc and I were blown away. We told our team: Cudi is the next artist we’re helping break on the platform. We put the full Myspace machine behind him. Around that time, I was doing the @itspacdiv deal with Motown when @iamsylviarhone (God-Mother) told us they had signed Cudi. I told her however else we could help, we were all in. We did the early album premiere for Man on the Moon on Myspace. Thank you @squarebiz and @xavierjernigan . All of this is in an upcoming Myspace documentary. Long story short: Cudi blew up on our platform first, then around the world. The @jimjonescapo remix helped break him in Black clubs, but spring break, festivals, and the world were already moving—I saw it with my own eyes. We just threw gasoline on a fire that was already lit. No one’s taking credit away from the artists. They built this themselves. Our goal was simple: build the biggest platform in music history dedicated to breaking new talent. That’s all we cared about. @myspace Tales from #2009 #KidCudi #DayNNite #RIPRos My Partner In Rhyme.

I find that new artists, producers, and songwriters often reach up at the people they want to work with instead of reaching across to build with their neighbors. @ChillHnly details how he landed the biggest placement of his career on Bryson Tiller's TrapSoul by taking the time to build with a smaller artist. 🎥: @Kamel.Bentot #Producer #Songwriter #MusicPodcast
