Here, I invite you to the spring exhibition, also my master examination exhibition at Konstfack: YU HONG QIAO- Jade Rainbow Bridge. Jade rainbow bridge is the place where my Popo, my maternal grandma, comes from. The place that she only told us about for the first time during the summer of 2024. The place where there was a stone bridge built to celebrate the newly wed couples in the village. The place where I would now like to invite you into, somewhere between the hand, the cloth and the needle.  In my degree project, I have been researching, exploring and dissecting the symbols and ornaments often used in embroidery from my regional cultural backgrounds, Guang Zhou (China) and Skaraborg (Sweden). I have woven these inspirations into my work to tell personal stories about home, identity and belonging.  At the exhibition, we celebrate folk art and intersectionality through collective embroidery workshops and karaoke performances. Let’s meet there, on the stone bridge, between the woven threads, inside the eye of the needle. 🪼WHERE: Tellusgången 16, 12626 Hägersten (Galleri Konstfack) 🌸 WHEN: 14 may 12:00 (VERNISSAGE)- 23 may 18:00 💫 WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE: coming soon 😉

Yesterday Stockholm’s brightest gemini and beloved new teacher at @solnakulturskola , Ebba Hägne (@ebbahagne ) stopped by to print a new edition of their A4 folded embroidery zine! As expected we talked for about 5 hours and printed for 30 min 🖨️💜💚 What a lovely day! Rumor has it…the zine might be available in the @fargfabriken_ shop very soon! 📚

This Wednesday, my family dog Yoshi had to be put to sleep due to sickness. He’s been with my family for basically the whole 11 years we lived in Sweden. He liked cheese, the snow and bum rubs (sometimes). On the evening Yoshi died, me and my partner burnt digestive biscuits outside his garden and imagined the smoke formed into everything he loved. A ritual I’ve done when other family members have passed away. Yoshi, jag saknar dig❤️ hoppas du har hittat en skön gräsmatta att sova på.

(Part two) by the quilting chair🪡🧵💫❤️‍🔥 The quilting chair (stickstol) is the first ever woodwork I have done. Not sure how I thought making a 19th century furniture made for quilting was a reasonable thing to make 4 weeks before graduating (with basically 0 experience with woodwork). I suprised myself with finding it really fun though and it was even more fun to do embroidery at the exhibition with others <3 with extra cute pics of friends and family visiting 😢💞

Suddenly it’s been exactly two months since the vernissage of my graduation show at the Spring exhibition at Konstfack. Absolutely surreal. I’m still trying to catch up mentally with everything that has happened. However today I finally had the energy to look back on the photos I took at the exhibition. Here are a few! 🌸🐬🪼🧚‍♀️(Part one)

Yesterday I completed my Masters degree in Visual Communication at Konstfack. It’s hard to sit here and find words that explain how these two years have changed me. Most importantly, I let myself rest with my hand that hold a needle, in telling stories that I have been afraid of telling, in collective making with other queers in in-betweenships. Thank you so so much for everybody that I got to meet during these two years ❤️‍🔥

Finally found the time to document the amazing zine made by the participants in Ebba’s (@ebbahagne ) collective queer zine workshop this spring! Participants overlayed their collages and illustrations on top of others leading to all these beautiful surprise spreads! The zine unfolds revealing a beautiful poster in fluo orange! ✨ #printing #riso #risoworkshop #queerprint #risograph #zinemaking #queerbooks

The spring exhibition at Konstfack is a lil less than a week away, where I will show my degree project YU HONG QIAO-Jade Rainbow Bridge. The exhibition runs from May 14-23. Vernissage is on Wednesday, May 14th between 12-19. All of you are warmly welcomed! I will have three events during the exhibition: May 14 at 14:00 I will have a performance where I inaugurate the knitting chair by attaching a work fabric to start a collective quilt project that will go on during the whole exhibition week. May 17 and May 21 14:00-17:00 there will be a collective quilting workshop at the quilting chair. Come by, stitch a couple stitches, look through some zines, touch some fabrics and say hi!!! 💫🪡💫
