From the first stirrings of civilisation, all cultures have created ceremonies as the backdrop for acknowledging significant moments and life events. Most of us will participate in a ceremony at some point, be it focused on a joining, birth or death or a time of significant change, transition or achievement. This week’s diary page celebrates nettles! As kids, many of us will remember their painful and long lasting stings and searching for dock leaves to ease the discomfort. Little did we know that what we saw as one of nature’s villains was actually one of her heroes too. Nettles makes such an important ecological contribution to both our health and the health of our environment. In this piece @pixie.mo Mo Kendall rightly reveres the nettle. She also speaks of her hopes to learn to spin nettle stems into yarn.
