Five years without you, my soul sister 🪽
On my 30th birthday you wrote me a card that said that finding each other “later in life” meant that we truly saw one another. We didn’t happen into friendship through school, our parents or the neighbourhood. We, instead, made the effort to choose each other. And everyday knowing you and loving you showed me just how special that choice would be.
I have so many stories of the ways you showed up for us both but it was always the little moments where I felt your love so strongly (and still do from the other side). Like the time you snuck back to the van and converted my bed from couch mode to bed mode just because you knew I hated doing that and that I’d be the first one to head in for sleep. Or the way you made our cabin feel like a home by stoking the fire or cooking your “famous” lasagna well before it looked like one. And one of my most cherished… you making a little extra space for me to lie across the plane seat on our repatriation flight from Morocco to Toronto to rest my head on your lap. Your heart was wide open and I was one of the lucky ones to receive your pure love 💗.
I wish I could say that my grief looks different today than it did 5 years ago but the truth is I miss hugging you, I miss dancing with you and I really long to see you playing and laughing with our daughter. We keep your memory alive and always tell Frankie stories of her amazing angel Auntie Lee ✨✨✨
Today and always we celebrate the LIGHT that you are to this world. I know my life got a whole lot brighter the day I met you in that Mexican parking lot.

1. We hit the road in the “monkey bus” — Frankie named our RV this as the old owner had a stuffed monkey hanging from the driver area
2. New space, same bedtime routine 🦷
3. Co sleeping in the make-shift king bed has its ups and downs but waking up to Frankie saying “I love you mama” will live rent free in my mind forever and ever 💓
4. Learning that driving a 30 ft RV is significantly slower than our vans

A few years ago sod man (aka @max.bidstrup 🦸♂️) visited and we got to work turning our rugged forest landscape into a grassy field. We knew we’d want space for future kiddos to run around and play games. I vividly remember saying then that we’d get married out there one day too not *really* thinking we would (how does one go about hosting 100 people in a grass patch anyway?!). Well, enter the absolute DREAM TEAM of vendors led by our incredible wedding planner @newberlinevents 💛.
I have always loved sitting up in this field looking up at the stars or watching the clouds go by. I often do my walking meditations out here laying some good energy in these grass blades. But nothing could’ve prepared me for the frequency of LOVE that now exists in this field having had 100 of our nearest and dearest dance, sing, laugh and cry right here. What a blessing that all of THAT energy gets to live in our backyard forever.
A massive thank you to our incredible vendors who took our wish of a “vibey, whimsical fairyland” and absolutely knocked it out of the park 🌺✨🦋🥂
